Kate Beckinsale’s Eccentric Doll-Like Look Mystifies Fans Who Think She Seems a Little Off
Variety honored some of the most influential and accomplished women in entertainment at its Power of Women event on Thursday, Oct. 24, in LA. Celebrity guests, including Selma Blair, Amy Poehler, and Elizabeth Banks, went all out with gala-appropriate outfits, some more traditional than others. As the evening unfolded, Kate Beckinsale took home the unofficial award for most unusual look. Fans found her blank stare and ballerina doll style a little “out there” for such an esteemed event. Regardless, the Serendipity star turned heads.
Beckinsale and other stars attended Power of Women, hosted by Leslie Jones, in honor of Variety’s cover stars, Amy Adams, Zoe Saldaña, Carol Burnett, and Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria. Sarah Hyland also received the Courage Award for her advocacy for domestic violence survivors. “We are privileged to celebrate remarkable women who continue to break barriers and drive progress in the industry,” explained Variety CEO Michelle Sobrino-Stearns.
Although Beckinsale didn’t earn an award, she did stand out at the party. The 51-year-old’s personal friend and stylist Gabs Morpeth dressed her in a corseted Christian Siriano mini dress with a poufed skirt. The pale pink satin dress snatched Beckinsale’s tiny waist, with laces ending in a bow between her legs. Morpeth added towering pink platform heels that featured large pink rosettes on the toes.
Makeup artist Vittorio Masecchia, whose clients include Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, and Janelle Monáe, gave Beckinsale a pale pink, glossy lip color and smokey eye with lush lashes. Her hairstylist Aaron Light pulled back the Underworld star’s brunette locks with an Audrey Hepburn-esque black bow, adding volume to her crown.
Beckinsale spent the evening socializing with Hollywood friends and acquaintances. At one point, she crouched on the floor to pet Selma Blair‘s service dog, an English Labrador named Scout. Since undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in 2019, Blair has celebrated her remission from multiple sclerosis, reports People.
In 2024, Beckinsale has been on a health journey, too. In January, her stepfather, Roy Battersby, died of a massive stroke while battling two types of cancer, reports The Standard. Her mom received a stage 4 cancer diagnosis during this time. Then, in March, Kate was hospitalized due to a hole in her stomach caused by long-term stress and grief.
Although she’s been through a lot recently, Kate’s future looks bright. She recently starred in Prime Video‘s Canary Black, an action-thriller spy movie about a CIA agent on the run. She’s also stepping out publicly more often and enjoying her time in the spotlight. On Instagram, Beckinsale credited Christian Siriano and her team for her Power of Women Look. The Van Helsing star posted an Instagram photo of her outfit as she held her Persian cat, Willow, whose white fur was dyed a bubblegum pink.
