Kate Middleton and her daughter Princess Charlotte have a strong “bond” with one another. A royal expert believes Charlotte is protective of her mother as she continues to battle cancer.

Princess Charlotte has taken a protective role toward her mother, Kate Middleton.

According to royal expert Ingrid Seward, who spoke to Hello!, Princess Charlotte has taken on a protective role regarding her mother, Kate Middleton. The 9-year-old daughter of Kate and Prince William has been attentive to her mother as she recovers from cancer.

This protective nature was evident as Charlotte and Kate stood together on the Buckingham Palace balcony after the Trooping the Color parade in June 2024. Charlotte and her brothers Prince George and Prince Louis accompanied Kate and Prince William to wave to the crowds below.

Seward said, “I think that Charlotte is really taking care of her mum. It was quite sweet the way she stood in front of her [during the parade] and they kept chatting. Charlotte seems to be very full of admiration for her mother, which I think is a lovely thing, too.”

She continued, “Kate and Charlotte are great friends and I think to Kate, their bond is very precious. The mother-daughter relationship is obviously particularly important to Kate because she has such a close relationship with her own mother, Carole Middleton.”

Unsurprisingly, Princess Charlotte is taking on a small role in the emotional well-being of Kate Middleton as she recovers from cancer. Charlotte has historically been a supportive person within her family.

She has been seen during public events watching over her younger brother, Prince Louis. At times, Charlotte has given Louis gentle correction when needed.

She was also caught on camera reminding Prince George to bow his head during Queen Elizabeth’s funeral. These small gestures model royal behavior that appears to be part of Princess Charlotte’s nature.

However, it could also be that she emulates her mother, Kate. The Princess of Wales has been a model of excellent royal behavior since entering the royal family as Prince William’s wife in 2011. Therefore, Charlotte could be following in the footsteps of her mother, who remains one of the most important senior royals in the current House of Windsor lineup.

How long will Kate Middleton remain in recovery from cancer?

Kate Middleton posted a health update on Instagram in June 2024. The senior royal revealed details about her cancer treatment and recovery.

Kate wrote, “I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. On those bad days, you feel weak and tired, and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.”

She continued, “My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months. On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, and start to do a little work from home.”

“I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal,” Kate concluded.

Kate Middleton resides in Windsor at Adelaide Cottage with Prince William and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
