Kate Middleton ‘Can’t Do Anything’ but This as ‘Massive Responsibility’ of Being Queen Looms
Kate Middleton has the “massive responsibility” of being queen ahead of her. For now, though, she “can’t do anything about it” except prepare. Not just herself, but perhaps more importantly she and Prince William’s children.
Kate Middleton is a future queen
Although the Princess of Wales isn’t in the royal family’s line of succession—Kate married into the family when she wed the Prince of Wales in 2011—she has a crucial role ahead of her, being queen. When William takes the throne—he’s first in the line of succession—upon King Charles III’s death, she’ll become queen and he king.
The pair will be known as King William and Queen Catherine. Kate requested her full name be used early in her royal journey, something her fellow British royals—ahem, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle—don’t always follow.
Over the years, Kate’s style has changed to reflect her position as a future queen. Gone are the days of skinny jeans and wedges. Now she’s much more likely to wear pantsuits and shy away from her once-beloved polka dot print.
Kate’s preparing George, Charlotte, and Louis for when she and Prince William take the throne
So, what’s Kate doing before she one day becomes queen? She knows what’s ahead and, according to royal expert and author Ingrid Seward, she’s doing everything she can to prepare the Wales family.
“Kate knows there is a looming, massive responsibility coming,” Seward told Hello! Magazine. “But she can’t do anything about that. So she just needs to make sure that the family she’s bringing up are able to deal with it.”
That means getting Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis 6, ready for lives representing the royal family with George eventually taking the throne. William and Kate’s oldest child is second in the line of succession followed by his sister and brother.
As for Kate’s 2024 cancer diagnosis (her recovery’s ongoing), Seward said, “It must have been very difficult for her to deal with her family and her illness at the same time. And she obviously realizes that the children have been through a hard time too.”
“I think the illness has made her keen to prioritize her family even more because they are the future,” the expert explained. “Obviously, she wants to support her husband and the monarchy. But she’s going to make sure that she does it in such a way that it doesn’t take her away from the family too much.”
Kate Middleton’s focus is on the ‘future’ what’s ‘really important in life’
While Kate isn’t queen just yet, she’s balancing looking ahead while enjoying this current chapter. “She is very embedded in the future now,” Seward said. “And the things that are really important in life, like her children and her charity work, really resonate and become even more important.”
Royal duties were something Kate shared she looked forward to getting back to in one of her health updates in 2024. In her last update, an unusually personal video, the 43-year-old shared that her cancer diagnosis gave her a “new perspective on everything,” particularly the importance of “simply loving and being loved.”
She seemingly combined what she learned with her work when she hosted the fourth annual Together at Christmas carol concert, encouraging guests to share what they were thankful for with handwritten notes.
“Being so ill teaches you to enjoy each day as it comes,” the royal author added. “So I think she has a new appreciation of what’s going on around her, and what she can do to make life better for other people as well.”
