Kate Middleton’s Hand Gestures Show How Much She Has Grown as a Royal, Body Language Expert Says
Kate Middleton grew up in a middle-class family in England, and she became a future queen in 2011 when she married Prince William. Since then, Kate has been putting a lot of effort into her duties as a royal. A body language expert pointed out how Kate’s hand gestures subtly show her confidence improved over the years.
Kate Middleton has done a lot of work as a royal
Being a royal means working as a public servant and helping the people of one’s country. Kate has stepped into this role seamlessly and is leaving her mark on the world.
A lot of the Duchess of Cambridge’s work centers on helping families and people who have mental health issues. For example, she supports many child development initiatives and raises awareness for children’s well-being. In 2020, Kate launched a national survey called “5 Big Questions on the Under 5’s” with the aim of learning more about young children and their families.
Kate and William also helped found the initiative Heads Together, which aims to start conversations about mental health. The couple leads by example and has shared stories of their difficulties in life.
Kate Middleton’s hand gestures show how much she has improved over the years
Being a royal means constantly being in the public eye, which can be a daunting experience for anyone. According to body language expert Darren Stanton, Kate seemed shy when she first started this job, much like how Princess Diana was.
“Kate was arguably more reserved when she was first thrown into the spotlight several years ago,” Stanton told Marie Claire. “She behaved in a similar way Princess Diana did when she first got engaged to Prince Charles. Kate would always stay very close to William and continuously look towards him to seek his approval and reassurance.”
However, Stanton has noticed a change in Kate. He added, “Now, it’s very clear that Kate is less reliant on William and even when out with him, she maintains a subtle distance from her husband—proving she is more than capable of holding her own.”
According to Stanton, Kate’s change can also be noticed in her subtle hand gestures.
“Kate also used to position her hands in front of her—another self-reassuring gesture which signifies feelings of anxiousness,” Stanton said. “However, these days she is seen making what is known as open palm gestures instead—doing so signifies not only confidence, but openness, genuineness and honesty.”
He continued, “The difference in how she holds her hands during engagements suggest that she has grown into the large shoes that come with being an established member of the Royal Family.”
Meghan Markle displayed a lot of confidence even as a new royal
In contrast to Kate, Meghan Markle was already in the public eye for many years before marrying Prince Harry in 2018. Meghan was notably an actor who starred on TV shows like Suits.
Stanton noticed that Meghan’s body language at royal events showed a lot of confidence from the get-go.
“While Kate has arguably evolved over time in the spotlight, Meghan has maintained a sense of confidence and strength,” Stanton explained. “So much so, that throughout her relationship with Harry she has been seen reassuring him during public appearances the couple make together and taking the lead.”
