Kate Middleton has battled cancer for the better part of one year. She remained out of sight for the better part of six months as she completed chemotherapy treatment. However, as Christmas approaches, will her struggles determine whether or not she spends the holidays with the royal family?

Will Kate Middleton’s health concerns keep her from spending Christmas with other royals?

The Princess of Wales has battled an undetermined type of cancer since the early months of 2024. She discussed her health battle in March of this year and announced she completed chemotherapy in September.

During that time, Kate appeared in public less than a handful of times. However, as the holiday season approached, her Christmas plans remained up in the air.

The Mirror reports that the Princess of Wales has decided to join the rest of the royal family at Sandringham. They typically gather together to celebrate Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at their Norfolk, England estate.

This holiday will be the first time the extended royal family will come together since both Kate and King Charles were diagnosed with cancer. As with his daughter-in-law, the type of cancer Charles had was not revealed.

King Charles is reportedly very happy to spend the holiday not only with Kate but his son Prince William and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. The Mirror reports that the king is ensuring that after the stress of the past year, the family has a wonderful holiday season.

The chance for a happy holiday comes after what Prince William, Kate called a ‘brutal’ and ‘stormy’ year

Prince William said in a November interview while visiting Cape Town, South Africa that it had been a “brutal” year. He added that 2024 was one of the hardest of his life as he watched his father and wife battle cancer.

Kate subsequently added in an emotional Instagram message, “The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant, and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown.”

She added, “This time has above all reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved.”

“Doing what I can to stay cancer-free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes,” she concluded.

Ahead of her annual Together at Christmas concert, Kate Middleton shared a letter on Instagram where she spoke of “love, empathy, and how much we need one another in the most difficult times.” All guests at the concert will receive the note.

“Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year. It is a time for celebration and joy, but it also gives us the opportunity to slow down and reflect on the deeper things that connect us all,” Kate wrote.

“It is when we stop and take ourselves away from the pressures of daily life, that we find the space to live our lives with an open heart, with love, kindness, and forgiveness — so much of what the Christmas spirit is all about,” reported The New York Post.

The annual event is supported by the Royal Foundation. It will be televised on Christmas Eve in the United Kingdom.

Kate Middleton, Prince William, and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis are expected to attend the event which takes place at Westminster Abbey on Dec. 6, 2024.
