Kate Middleton is reportedly heartbroken over royal traditions “being changed” for her oldest son with Prince William, Prince George.

Prince George could be at the center of a Kate Middleton heartbreak

Royal expert Katie Nicholl told The Mirror that Kate Middleton and Prince William could be at odds over Prince George’s future education. This may lead to his mother being heartbroken over traditions “being changed” for the United Kingdom’s future king, Nicholl claimed.

Nicholl explained to the outlet, “Kate’s preference is for George to be at a co-education school, so he can be with his siblings. Which is what Kate experienced at Marlborough [College] with her sister, Pippa, and brother, James.”

The royal expert continued, “It was a very happy school life for her. But William has very fond memories of Eton, which has a long history with aristocrats and members of the royal family.”

“There’s always the possibility of traditions being changed. William and Harry didn’t end up following in their father’s footsteps by going to Gordonstoun [in Scotland]. It may be that George breaks the Eton mold and ends up somewhere else,” Nicholl concluded.

Prince George attends Lambrook School with his sister, Princess Charlotte, and his brother, Prince Louis. The school is for children aged 3 to 13.

After moving to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor in 2022, the education needs of the Wales children shifted. Once students at Thomas’s School in Battersea, and Willcocks Nursery School in London, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis changed schools to reflect their new address.

William and Kate decided on Lambrook School in Berkshire, England. The facility requires students to attend school six days a week, including Saturdays.

However, the choice was reportedly a good one for the family. They reportedly relied on the sense of community Lambrook provided the children. This close-knit school setting was particularly helpful as Kate Middleton battled cancer throughout 2024.

Katie Nicholl explains, “When Kate was in hospital, George was on the football pitch playing with his friends. That sense of normality, of keeping the family going at one of the hardest times they’ve ever gone through, was important.”

She concludes, “The school gives them a great infrastructure and a great support network. It allows the children to live a regular childhood – a low-key, happy, albeit privileged childhood.”

However, as George moves upward in his education, Kate will find herself at a crossroads. She will have to decide, along with Prince William, the best course for George’s education.

If he attends Eton College as his father and uncle, Prince Harry did, he will board at the all-boys school. However, he will still be close enough to the family home to visit regularly.

Kate Middleton and Prince William have not publicly declared whether or not Prince George would attend Eton College. However, at the age of 10, he and his parents visited his father’s former school. along with Marlborough College, his mother’s alma mater.

Both boarding schools provide an excellent education. Eton’s tuition is over $66K per year, while Marlborough comes in at almost $53K.

It is up to George and his parents whether or not he will attend either school or a different facility altogether. That decision will likely be made within the next year, so George will be able to attend upon graduation from Lambrook.
