Kate Middleton Keeps Wearing This 1 Item Queen Elizabeth Hates
After marrying Prince William in 2011, Kate Middleton seamlessly transitioned into her role as a member of the royal family.
The Duchess of Cambridge has paid close attention to protocol and proved to Queen Elizabeth II that she can count on her to uphold most royal rules. However, there is something Middleton has incorporated into her wardrobe that her grandmother-in-law really dislikes. Here’s exactly what that is and if any other royal ladies have been spotted wearing the same thing.
The item Middleton keeps wearing that Queen Elizabeth is not a fan of
The one thing Middleton wears quite often that does not have Her Majesty’s stamp of approval is wedge shoes. Middleton is a fan of the style and has been seen wearing them on a number of occasions, however, she’s usually not around William’s grandmother when she has them on.
“The queen isn’t a fan of wedged shoes,” a source told Vanity Fair. “She really doesn’t like them and it’s well known among the women in the family.”
Some royal fans took to the Q&A forum Quora with theories about why HM doesn’t like that shoe style.
According to one user on the site, “The queen hates wedges because they remind her of austerity and rationing during the war. One thing that was not rationed was cork, so people used it to make their own shoes, which had to be a wedge shape because the cork was too soft to make a separate sole and heel.”
Her Majesty is particular about her own shoes
Her Majesty doesn’t wear wedges and she is very particular about what shoes she does put on her feet. In fact, the queen has a “royal shoe-wearer” on hand. That person’s job is to break in Queen Elizabeth’s footwear before she puts them on to prevent blisters.
“[The shoes] have to be immediately comfortable … she does get someone to wear them,” said Stewart Parvin who has designed dresses for her since 2007. “The queen can never say ‘I’m uncomfortable, I can’t walk anymore.’ She has the right to have someone wear them in.”
Meghan Markle had to leave an event when she wore wedges?
The Duchess of Cambridge isn’t the only member of the royal family going against Queen Elizabeth and wearing wedges. Middleton’s sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, has also been photographed in them.
During a royal visit to Fiji in October 2018, the Duchess of Sussex wore a floral pink dress paired with Castañer espadrille wedges. Prince Harry’s wife was scheduled to meet with the public for 15 minutes. However, she only stayed six minutes leading to reports that Markle was told to leave early because of her shoe choice.
Those reports were later debunked though when news broke that the duchess’ appearance was cut short due to a security risk.
