Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle Flashing Fake Smiles for Cameras Before Everything Really Went Downhill
There was a time when royal fans thought the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) and her sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, had a really good relationship. But behind the scenes, the two never really hit it off and a dispute over a bridesmaid dress only complicated things.
Then, when the rift between Prince William and Prince Harry came to a boiling point, it completely sealed the fate that the ladies would ever even be on friendly terms.
Some royal watchers have debated over the years if the signs were always there and now, a video going viral shows the princess and duchess looking happy in each other’s company before things went downhill.
Video shows illusion of happy times before their relationship really deteriorated
The video that has gone viral on TikTok is titled “So sad.” The 12-second clip shows photos of both women at different royal events smiling and laughing with the text: “Kate and Meghan before.” Halfway through the video, their expressions change as the text reads: “Kate and Meghan after.”
The video has amassed over a million views with more than 80,000 likes, and hundreds of comments. Most of the commenters agreed that it was sad how things turned out and shared the opinion that their relationship completely deteriorated when the Sussexes moved to America and aired out the royals’ dirty laundry.
One person opined: “I feel they [were] both friends tbh at first, then it all blew up and went into this toxic waste mess.”
Others thought that in some clips Meghan looked like she wanted to make things better.
“Meghan looks like she wants to be friends with Kate whatever happens,” a user said while another added, “I feel bad for Megan she was looking at Kate like she wanted to chat” and “Notice how Meghan in the last photo is looking at Kate sweetly and Kate can’t even acknowledge her.”
Meghan admitted that behind the smiles ‘nothing is what it looks like’
However, it was Meghan who admitted in her televised interview with Oprah Winfrey that she and her sister-in-law were never great friends or had this wonderful relationship like people thought they did.
When the former talk show host questioned the former Suits star about the countless photos of her and the Princess of Wales looking happy and smiling alongside each other, the Duchess of Sussex confessed that it was all an illusion.
“It seemed like you and Kate at the Wimbledon game where you were going to watch a friend play tennis — was it what it looked like?” Oprah asked before Meghan responded: “My understanding and my experience for the past four years is that it’s nothing like what it looks like.” The duchess then emphasized that in the royal family: “It’s nothing like what it looks like.”
