Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, come from two very different worlds. While Kate has been orbiting around the British royal family for nearly 20 years as Prince William’s college sweetheart, Meghan didn’t know much about the royal family before she and Prince Harry got engaged in 2017.
Therefore, as much as the former actor was eager to put her best forward when it came to royal life, her past work and independence meant that she was never going to mesh with the British royal family’s archaic traditions. An American woman of color dealing with the deeply racist British press, and tabloids only made it more challenging.
While Meghan and Kate were cordial, they were never close. Now, Meghan has cleared up a rumor about her relationship with her sister-in-law, revealing that the duchess brought her to tears just days before her wedding. Kate is said to be mortified.

The British royal family was not briefed before Oprah with Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special aired, and to say that they are shocked by what Prince Harry and Meghan revealed to the public would be an understatement. The Sussexes spoke openly about their choice to exit their roles as senior working members of the British royal family.
Meghan spoke about her deteriorating mental health amid the misogynoir that she experienced in the media daily. She and Prince Harry also discussed that the royal family made no effort to help them.
Most shocking was the revelation about a racist conversation about baby Archie’s skin tone that an unnamed family member had with Prince Harry. The royals are said to be very rattled. Kate, in particular, was not at all pleased to be mentioned.
“Middleton will find it upsetting to be dragged into the royal drama, especially considering she’s tried really hard to be a peacemaker between William and Harry,” royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight. “She has been deeply saddened by the brothers’ falling out. Don’t forget she was incredibly close to Harry herself.”

For years, rumors have swirled that Meghan made Kate cry in the days leading up to her 2018 wedding over a disagreement over some flower girl dresses. Now Meghan has revealed the truth about the rumor. “The reverse happened,” she told Oprah. The Duchess of Sussex added,
I don’t say that to be disparaging to anyone. Because it was a really hard week of the wedding and she was upset about something. But she owned it and she apologized and she brought me flowers and a note apologizing. She did what I would do if I hurt someone, right? To take accountability for it. What is shocking is that six, seven months after the wedding that the reverse would be out in the world.
Meghan explained that the racism that she experienced and the rude comments that Kate has experienced from the British tabloids are not the same.
“Kate was called ‘Waity Katie’ waiting to marry William,” Meghan said. “While I imagine that was really hard, and I do, I can’t picture what that felt like. This is not the same. Rude and racist are not the same.”

It seems that Kate is not at all pleased about being dragged into the Sussexes’ current drama.
“From what I hear, there are different versions of the bridesmaid story, not just the one Meghan discussed,” Nicholls told OK Magazine. “Kate felt it was all sorted, so to have it brought up again was mortifying. Kate is not in a position to respond and Meghan and Harry know that. Kate is so discreet and respects her personal life.”
It seems that both Prince William and Kate believe they were super welcoming to Meghan and Harry.
