Kate Middleton’s Personality Lacks the ‘Magic’ and ‘Charisma’ of Princess Diana, Royal Insider Once Claimed
Kate Middleton is seen as one of the most well-respected women in the world. As the wife of the future king, Kate has a lot to live up to: She’ll be the queen consort one day, and she’s spending her whole life preparing for the role.
Though Kate is adored by the public, Paul Burrell, Princess Diana’s former butler, said back in 2017 that Kate doesn’t have the same “magic” or “charisma” that her late mother-in-law did.
Kate has always been well-liked by the public
Ever since Kate and William started dating, the public has been fascinated by her. Of course, there are always going to be critics, but Kate hit the ground running when she and William got married, and she’s always taken her royal duties very seriously. The duchess has long been looked at as one of the most influential people in the fashion industry as well; her outfits are tasteful and appropriate for every event to which she wears them.
Kate often wears heirlooms of Princess Diana, too, to pay homage to Diana, who was also loved by the public.
The duchess has always been classy and well-mannered
There were rumors that Queen Elizabeth was concerned about Kate’s work ethic when she and William were dating. That was, reportedly, one of the reasons why William waited so long to propose. But as soon as Kate stepped into the role, she handled it with poise and grace.
The duchess has since been seen as classy and well-mannered, and in a public poll of royal approval, the British public gave her a 64% approval rating (the third highest behind the queen and William). The public described Kate as a good role model, admirable, and genuine.
Princess Diana’s former butler says Kate doesn’t have the same ‘magic’
Paul Burrell, Diana’s former butler and confidante, said in 2017 that, despite Kate’s good relationship with the public, she still doesn’t quite stack up to Diana. “She’s a lovely, lovely girl… But that extra something, which you would call the ‘X-factor’, the magic quality, charisma, it’s not there,” Burrell said in an interview. “I met Mother Theresa. She had it. Pope John Paul II had it. The Queen has it. Diana certainly had it. Kate doesn’t.”
Burrell tried to explain that Kate is “lovely” and adores her husband, but he didn’t walk back on his words about her personality. Kate has received other criticism in the past for being “machine-made” as author Hilary Mantel called her. Both critics received backlash from the public — and even high-profile people, such as former prime minister David Cameron — over the comments.
Diana likely would have loved both of her daughters-in-law
Though Kate has been compared to Diana in a negative way, Diana likely would have still adored both Kate and Meghan Markle, who is married to Prince Harry. Both women seem to have tremendous love for their husbands, which is likely all Diana would want to see.
William and Kate seem to have a strong relationship, and the duchess does whatever she can to give back to the public. People have all kinds of personalities, but it doesn’t necessarily make one person more or less fit for the role than the other.
