In honor of their ninth wedding anniversary, we are reflecting on the royal wedding of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. On April 29, 2011, the longtime couple, who met while attending college in Scotland, married in a wedding ceremony that looked straight out of a fairytale. Kate Middleton and her father arrived at the church
Catherine and William married at the historic Westminster Abbey in London, England. Where many royal events have taken place, the bride arrived with her father, Michael Middleton. From this birds-eye view, it’s easy to appreciate the sheer size of the church and Catherine’s stunning train.
Prince William and Kate Middleton left the church hand in hand
While there are many photos of the couple leaving Westminster Abbey following their wedding ceremony, there are still some we haven’t seen. This is one of them.
And so is this.
We’ve seen plenty of pictures (and videos) of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge exiting the church but these ones, from this particular vantage point, are new to us.
The couple left Buckingham Palace in a car belonging to Prince Charles
Following their wedding ceremony at Westminster Abbey, Catherine and William left Buckingham Palace in a blue 1969 Aston Martin belonging to the groom’s father, Charles, Prince of Wales.
The newlyweds waved to onlookers as they made their exit in the convertible decorated for the occasion with balloons and the license plate “Ju5t Wed,” according to The Telegraph.
Kate Middleton and Prince William started their carriage procession
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge greeted crowds during a carriage procession. While we’ve seen close-up shots of this particular part of their royal wedding, we never realized just how grand the carriage procession had been until we saw this photo.

After greeting well-wishers during the traditional carriage procession, William and Catherine arrived back at Buckingham Palace where the groom helped the bride climb out of the carriage while others minded her train that measured nine feet.

The father of the bride, Michael Middleton, lifted Catherine’s veil as the bride and groom’s wedding ceremony got underway.
The bride and groom bowed to Queen Elizabeth
Keeping with royal protocol, William and Catherine bowed to Queen Elizabeth II.
Following closely behind with their backs to the camera are William’s brother, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and Catherine’s sister, Pippa Middleton, who served as the best man and maid of honor.
Kate Middleton comforted a bridesmaid
While waving to onlookers on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, Catherine took a moment to talk to bridesmaid (and William’s goddaughter), Grace van Cutsem, who didn’t appear to like the noise.
They greeted guests
As can be expected, royal weddings bring out celebrities, dignitaries, and heads of state. William and Catherine’s wedding proved to be no exception. At Buckingham Palace following their wedding ceremony, the bride and groom greeted a line of people. Here’s the Duke of Cambridge saying hello to the now-former Prime Minister of Australia, Julia Gillard.
