Kate Middleton and Prince William have three children. They are hands-on parents to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince George. But, like many parents, they don’t have the luxury of sleeping alone. There’s one family member who regularly shares their bed.

Kate Middleton and Prince William’s bed is a welcoming place

Prince William and Kate Middleton are likely just like many parents, who use their bedroom as a comforting place for their children to cuddle, or talk they need some private time. However, one family member has made themselves permanently at home in the Princess and Princess of Wales’ bed.

During a visit to Duchy College in Cornwall, England, William told a royal fan that he and Kate often share their bed with their cocker spaniel Orla (per Hello!).  Louise Harland revealed that William told her that Orla sleeps with the couple.

Hello! reported Harland later told Hits Radio Cornwall: “[William] said that his little dog sleeps on the bed with them at night, with him and Kate. [He was] absolutely in love with my little dog. He asked what breed he was and he’s never met one of those breeds, he’s a Cockerjack, so he’s a little bit of a unique combination.”

How long have the couple been dog parents to Orla?

Orla has been part of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s home since 2020. The dog was gifted to the couple by Kate’s brother, James Middleton. Orla was the second dog James gave the couple. The first was Lupo who died in November 2020.

He told Hello! he believes the cocker spaniel supported his sister as she battled cancer throughout 2024. James said, “I know how much the dogs, for me, have helped in taking your mind off something. So I’m certain that for them, Orla is doing her job in supporting her family.”

Orla was featured in the Princess of Wales’s video message confirming that she had finished chemotherapy. At the beginning of the clip, Orla runs alongside William, Kate, and their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. The four-legged family member was also visible with the couple as she lay a picnic blanket on the beach.

Orla was also featured in Princess Charlotte’s seventh birthday portrait, taken by the Princess of Wales. The images were taken in Norfolk near the family’s country home, Anmer Hall, on the Sandringham Estate.

Does the family have any other pets?

In April 2024, Prince William visited a youth-focused farm and revealed that Orla isn’t the family’s only pet. He revealed the Wales clan also has a guinea pig in a video clip shared by Victoria Ward of The Telegraph on X.

However, William claimed his kids always forgot to clean the animal’s cage. Therefore by default, it became his job.

William met a guinea pig named Snowflake during his visit. It appeared William was very comfortable around the animal.

“These guinea pigs are very well-loved, they look extremely cozy,” Prince William claimed. “Hello, hi!” said the prince to the small animal.

Prince William grew up around animals as a child. His parents King Charles and Princess Diana had a jack russel terrier named Tigga and a labrador named Harvey.
