Kate Middleton and Prince William will celebrate their 11th anniversary on April 29. But when you add in the years that they dated, the couple has officially been together for more than 20 years.
As many royal fans know, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge briefly split during their courtship back in 2007. But it didn’t take long for the couple to reunite and rekindle their romance. That “naughty” reunion is making headlines once again, but it’s not because of William and Kate’s anniversary.

William and Kate met during their first year at St. Andrews University in Scotland, and their friendship soon turned into a romance. They were an official couple when they both graduated in 2005. But just one year later, the media started reporting that there was trouble in the relationship.
The future king and queen consort officially split in the spring of 2007. But just two months after the breakup, William and Kate reunited at a “Freakin Naughty-themed party” thrown by Kate’s friend Sam Waley-Cohen. For this party, Wills reportedly wore hot pants and a policeman helmet and Kate was dressed as a naughty nurse in fishnets.
That was the night they were spotted in “deep conversation.” And just a few weeks later, they were back together. By the end of 2007, Kate had moved into Prince William’s apartment at Clarence House. Three years later, the couple announced their engagement.
When talking about her brief split from William during an interview about the engagement, Kate said: “At the time, I wasn’t very happy about it, but it made me a stronger person.
Why the ‘naughty reunion’ is back in the news
William and Kate’s brief split and “naughty reunion” is making headlines once again because of Waley-Cohen. He is a full-time dentist and amateur UK jockey who recently rode in a steeplechase known as the Grand National, and he shockingly won.
Before he won the race, Waley-Cohen’s biggest claim to fame was the supposed role he played in getting William and Kate back together.
“It’s a dream. I couldn’t believe it,” Waley-Cohen said, per The Guardian. “That is beyond words. It’s a fairytale, it’s a fantasy. Just full of love, happiness and gratefulness. I’ve said for ages that if I won the Grand National I would retire there and then. When you have a ride that goes as well as that it is wise to stick to that.”

As for the part he played in getting William and Kate back together by throwing a “Freakin’ Naughty” party at his mansion in Oxfordshire, Waley-Cohen doesn’t take credit for the duo reconciling. He also claims that his part of the story has been greatly romanticized.
“There’s an idea that I was like Cupid with a bow and arrow. People love the idea that somebody put them back together, but they put themselves together far more,” Waley-Cohen said, per The Mirror.
