The Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) surprised royal fans all around the world when she revealed her cancer diagnosis and that she was undergoing preventive chemotherapy.

In her recorded message, the princess explained: “In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team, therefore, advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.

“This, of course, came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them and to reassure them that I am going to be OK.”

Kate attended Trooping the Colour on June 15 and the Wimbledon Men’s Final on July 14, but has taken a break from her royal duties while she recovers. However, when her health allowed it the princess did one thing that Meghan Markle said couldn’t be done when she was living in the U.K.

What Meghan said she couldn’t do because of the press in the U.K.

In 2022, Meghan sat down for an interview with The Cut’s Allison P. Davies. The Duchess of Sussex talked about her life in Montecito with her family after leaving England and said there was something she would never have been able to do with her son, Archie, in England.

Davies noted what Meghan told her writing: “Earlier in our conversation about her goals for the life she’s creating here, she’d remarked upon how, if Archie were in school in the U.K., she’d never be able to do school pickup and drop-off without it being a royal photo call with a press pen of 40 people snapping pictures. ‘Sorry, I have a problem with that. That doesn’t make me obsessed with privacy. That makes me a strong and good parent protecting my child,’ Meghan says.”

But what the former Suits star said is completely at odds with what the Princess of Wales does with her children.

Before her cancer diagnosis, Kate did that regularly

Both Kate and William have taken and picked their kids up from school whenever their schedules allow it. Moreover, the future king and queen make frequent appearances at their children’s school.

In addition to dropping off and picking up Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis from school, fellow parents have said the Prince and Princess of Wales are “like a normal mum and dad” at Lambrook events. According to Hello! magazine, Kate and William take part in school activities like fundraising drives. Sources told the publication that the day after Kate’s carol service at Westminster Abbey, it was the school Christmas fair and they were there just like they were the previous year.

“I saw them queueing up for tombola tickets like everyone else. They really act like a normal mum and dad,” another parent said at the time.
