Kate Middleton Makes a Rare Comment on Her Cancer Journey and the ‘Year’ of Difficulty She Went Through
Earlier this year, Kate Middleton sent shockwaves around the world when she announced that she had been diagnosed with cancer after spending nearly three months out of the royal spotlight. Kate, the Princess Wales, is married to Prince William, and up until this year, many assumed the princess’ life was perfect.
Kate showed so much strength throughout 2024, and she revealed in a rare comment during her Together at Christmas special that she was not expecting to have the year she had.
Kate Middleton gives a rare comment on her cancer journey
Christmas 2023 was the last time that Kate made a public appearance prior to announcing her diagnosis. In January 2024, Kensington Palace revealed that Kate had undergone abdominal surgery and would require plenty of recovery, but people started building conspiracy theories around the princess’ disappearance. It eventually led Kate to speak out, revealing that she was undergoing chemotherapy.
Between the rumors about her health and battling cancer, Kate faced plenty of trials and tribulations in 2024. Toward the end of the year, William said in an interview that he was so “proud” of his wife for dealing with everything she’d been handed. Kate announced in late summer that she was cancer free, but she has still only returned to royal duties in a limited capacity. However, the princess did host her annual Together at Christmas carol concert on December 6, where she gave a rare comment on her year.
Paloma Faith, a British pop star who performed at Kate’s carol concert, asked the princess how she was doing now that the year was coming to a close. “I didn’t know this year was going to be the year that I’ve just had,” Kate responded, according to People. It was the first time she’s spoken candidly about her health.
Although it was a short comment, it was enough to give a glimpse at the way Kate had felt about her difficult year.
Prince William and Kate Middleton will do more together in 2025
William did suggest that he and Kate will travel more together in 2025 and hopefully plan some trips on behalf of the royal family; Kate did not travel at all this year. Kate has continued to rest and recover, but she will almost certainly return to a more normal royal schedule come 2025.
Still, Kate’s video announcing that she had beat cancer seemed to also suggest that she will continue to put her family and health first. While the monarchy is important to her, she appears to be leaving this year with her priorities focused on things other than becoming queen.
