Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, has been a beloved member of the British royal family since marrying Prince William 10 years ago. She and the future king were college sweethearts and dated for almost a decade before tying the knot in April 2011. As a result, the duchess was able to slowly get used to the British royal family’s rules and regulations. It was not a privilege that Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, was afforded.
Since Meghan joined the royal fold in 2018, rumors swirled that there was tension between the duchesses. However, in a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan has set the record straight about the things that have gone down between herself, the royal family, and Kate.
Both Meghan and Prince Harry spoke about the horrific tabloids, the racism Meghan endured, and the overall lack of support from the royals. Meghan even spoke in-depth about her relationship with Kate, saying nothing was as it appeared.

The British royal family is reportedly stunned by the Sussexes tell-all interview. More than one day after the interview aired, Queen Elizabeth II released a statement addressing Oprah with Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special.
Though there was a lot of information there, especially concerning Meghan’s deteriorating mental health, the tabloids, and Archie’s lack of titles and security, one of the most stunning was the fact that a member of the royal fold expressed concerns over how dark Archie’s skin would be when he was born.
In a short statement, the queen has said,
The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan, and Archie will always be much-loved family members.

Meghan also addressed the alleged feud between herself and Kate. She explained that though reports said that she’d made Kate cry in the days leading up to her wedding, “the reverse happened.”
“I don’t say that to be disparaging to anyone,” Meghan said. “Because it was a really hard week of the wedding and she was upset about something. But she owned it and she apologized and she brought me flowers and a note apologizing. She did what I would do if I hurt someone, right? To take accountability for it. What is shocking is that six, seven months after the wedding that the reverse would be out in the world.”
Meghan went on to say that she knew that Kate had also endured tabloid criticism, but it was not the same thing that she experienced.
“Kate was called ‘Waity Katie’ waiting to marry William,” she explained. “While I imagine that was really hard, and I do, I can’t picture what that felt like. This is not the same. Rude and racist are not the same.”

Queen Elizabeth is the only royal family member who has responded to the Oprah interview. However, royal expert Katie Nicholl has said that everyone, including Kate, has found it deeply upsetting.
“Middleton will find it upsetting to be dragged into the royal drama, especially considering she’s tried really hard to be a peacemaker between William and Harry,” Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight. “She has been deeply saddened by the brothers’ falling out. Don’t forget she was incredibly close to Harry herself.”
