Though the British royal family must adhere to certain protocols and procedures, Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge have done their best to shield their children from the spotlight and to parent in a way that Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis will have normal happy childhoods.
Though the Cambridges have help with their little ones with the aid of their live-in nanny, Maria Borrallo, they are still very hands-on and have strict rules for their little ones.
In addition to built-in outside play, modified screen-time, and a well-enforced bed-time, the Cambridges make sure to have an open dialogue and communication with their littles even when they are at royal events. When Princess Charlotte stuck her tongue out in public, that’s exactly what Kate did.

Last year, Princess Charlotte who was just four-years-old at the time, attended the King’s Cup with her parents. Typically, when royals see fans they give them a signature wave. Clearly Charlotte was not having it, so she decided to stick her tongue out instead.
It was a move that her uncle, Prince Harry mastered three decades prior. The princess, who has no idea of her royal status or visibility, was probably tired, not feeling it, or downright annoyed, therefore her natural reaction was to sick out her tongue
At the time, fans immediately reacted to the hilarious move. “Charlotte is an entire mood,” one said. Another added, “Just a normal child! You can’t control their every move.”

Whether they are in formal attire or not, Kate and Prince William have been known to bend down to their children’s level so that the can communicate with them clearly whether it’s through meltdowns or questions. This time was no different.
After seeing Princess Charlotte stick out her tongue, Kate bent down to speak to her. She even grinned to the crowd as if to say, “kids will be kids.” Soon afterward, the princess moved on and continued enjoying the event. Four months later, she attended the Christmas Day walk with her parents and Prince George in front of hundreds of fans and did not miss a step.

Now only were fans delighted by Princess Charlotte’s off-the-cuff, gesture, they also delighted in the typically reserved duchess’ response. After InStyle shared a video of the incident on Instagram fans commented,
“Kate’s response was fantastic!” one fan said. “Kate blows my mind with her grace here! She is so beautiful,” another said. Someone else explained,
Kids are the equalizer. It doesn’t matter who you are. Movie star, doctor, athlete, or royal, kids don’t care and it’s their world and they’re going to do what they do. And if you think otherwise…you probably don’t have kids.
