Kate Middleton’s Real Reason for Attending Trooping the Colour Wasn’t Because She Just Wanted to Show Her Face
Kate Middleton made her first public appearance since December 2023 when she attended the royal family’s Trooping the Colour celebration on June 15, 2024. The Princess of Wales sat in a glass-enclosed carriage alongside her children and also made an appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony. But Kate’s real reason for attending the celebration wasn’t because she was determined to show face; rather, it had everything to do with King Charles.
Kate Middleton wanted to support King Charles at Trooping the Colour
The Princess of Wales shared in a March 2024 video that she had been diagnosed with cancer and would be undergoing chemotherapy treatment. The princess had been out of the public eye since right after Christmas, which led to a series of rumors surrounding her well-being. Aside from the video, she remained away from the spotlight until her first public appearance on June 15 at the royal family’s Trooping the Colour celebration. People were elated to see her, and while she announced that she was having some good days and some bad (and that she was not done with treatment yet), she shined during her public appearance.
But the Princess of Wales wasn’t in the public eye just to show her face; rather, the real reason she attended the event was to “support the father-in-law she has become increasingly close to over the years,” royal expert Rebecca English said, according to Express. English said Kate and Charles share “an unenviable bond” because of their diagnoses, and Kate was determined to be there for him; Charles has continued to show support for the princess amid her treatment.
Of course, while the parade was meant to honor Charles, all eyes were on Kate as she appeared with her kids and husband in the carriage and on the balcony.
Kate Middleton might attend more royal events throughout the summer
In her social media announcement, Kate revealed that this might not be the only time we see her this summer. She did say that she is not “out of the woods” yet and is still receiving treatment, but that she is going to potentially attend more royal engagements if she feels up to it.
Prince William has continued to attend royal engagements while Kate takes some time off, and he has even been spotted at sporting events with his oldest child, Prince George. For now, the kids are mostly kept out of the spotlight, but royal fans were also delighted to see Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis make a Trooping the Colour appearance as well.
