Kate Middleton to ‘Rest Quietly’ as George, Charlotte, and Louis Return to School
It’s time to go back to school for Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. For their mom, Kate Middleton, a royal expert says that means some time to “rest” without any guilt as she continues cancer treatment.
‘Entertaining’ George, Charlotte, and Louis this summer ‘can’t always have been easy’ for Kate
Despite having fun this summer—Taylor Swift’s Eras concert, Wimbledon, trips to the beach, and Scotland—Kate will, according to former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, likely be breathing a sigh of relief as George, 11, Charlotte, 9, and Louis, 6, head back to school.
“I think that, like most moms, Catherine will have conflicting emotions about the end of the school holidays,” she told OK!. “Entertaining three children day after day—especially when there must still be days when she is feeling the effects of her cancer treatment—can’t always have been easy in these past few weeks.”
Kate announced she’d been diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer in March 2024. Since then, she’s undergone treatment while taking a break from official royal duties.
“But she and [Prince] William have looked wonderfully relaxed in the few images we have seen,” Bond went on. In August, the parents of three congratulated Team GB Olympic athletes before being spotted on their way to church in Scotland a few weeks later. “I’m sure they’ve had a lot of fun and family time in Norfolk and Balmoral,” she added.
She can now ‘rest quietly’ as George, Charlotte, and Louis go back to school
Bond continued, saying Kate will appreciate having some alone time while George, Charlotte, and Louis are in class. “Now it’s back to the early morning discipline of school uniforms, bags packed, homework done, and the school run,” she said.
“It will give Catherine the chance to rest quietly when she needs it without feeling guilty that she’s not with the children. And it will also give her the opportunity to continue the work that she has been doing behind the scenes on the campaign and projects that mean so much to her.”
George, Charlotte, and Louis are students at Lambrook School. It’s a prep school not far from the Wales family home, Adelaide Cottage, in Windsor, England. Classes, according to the school’s official website, start on Sept. 4, 2024.
Kate has yet to announce her return to royal duties
At the time of writing, Kensington Palace hasn’t announced when Kate will resume her job as a working royal. So, for now, that means no public appearances by the 43-year-old visiting charities, schools, hospitals, etc., while representing the monarchy.
She last shared an update in June 2024 before attending Trooping the Colour, King Charles III’s annual birthday parade. In a social media statement, Kate said she’d made “good progress” with a “few more months” of chemotherapy left.
A previous report claimed the king made it clear to Kate that she could take all the time she needed before resuming duties.
