Get ready for a message from Kate Middleton when she and Prince William release their 2024 Wales family Christmas card. An expert predicts the Princess of Wales will quietly send a message to the world about her “cancer battle” during the holiday season

Kate will put her ‘cancer battle behind her’ in the 2024 Wales family Christmas card

Royal expert Ingrid Seward predicts Kate will subtly put cancer in the rearview mirror with her and the Prince of Wales’ Christmas card. (Kate underwent chemotherapy after announcing she’d been diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer in March 2024.)

Typically the couple poses for a photo with their three children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6. This time, Seward told the U.K.’s Mirror, will be no different.

It will “definitely be with family as right across the board that is what has been traditionally sent,” she said. “I imagine that it will be [a] cuddly picture of her with her arms around her children.”

Expecting a “close contact picture,” Seward also shared it’s likely Kate will want to send a message. Specifically that she’s putting “her cancer battle behind her” and entering the holiday season and new year with a “cuddly” positive image of the Wales family.

Kate’s gradually returning to duties as her cancer recovery continues

So, what’s Kate doing until the Wales family Christmas card is unveiled? The 42-year-old’s main “focus” is continuing to heal following her chemotherapy treatment as she slowly returns to work.

“Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus,” Kate said in a September 2024 health update on social media. “Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.”

Since then Kate’s quietly held meetings at Windsor Castle, which isn’t far from her and William’s Adelaide Cottage home. One reportedly involved discussions about her annual Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey. The other covered her child development initiative.

William and Kate are no strangers to controversy surrounding their Christmas cards—or family photos for that matter. Their most recent Christmas card, released in December 2023, featured a black-and-white photo of them with George, Charlotte, and Louis all in jeans and button-down shirts.

Taken by Josh Shinner in Windsor earlier in the year, the Christmas card soon came under fire for poor editing. (Many online sleuths noticed mysteriously placed and/or missing hands and feet.) The talk reportedly “embarrassed” William and Kate who were “shocked” by the response.

Following the even bigger controversy surrounding an edited family photo for Mother’s Day in March 2024, chances are Kate and William—and whoever is behind the camera for their Christmas card this year—will pay extra attention to editing.

As for when to expect a Wales family Christmas card, it’s not typical for William and Kate to unveil it on a specific date. Over the years, they’ve released it anywhere from the first or second week of the month to the third.
