Kate Middleton said she would undergo a course of “preventative chemotherapy” in a March video statement where she shared she was diagnosed with cancer. However, a royal expert revealed the Princess of Wales subsequently “struggled” with her cancer treatment.

Kate Middleton revealed she was undergoing cancer treatment in March 2024

In a video message shared on social media, Kate Middleton revealed she was diagnosed with cancer after undergoing abdominal surgery in January 2024. Thus, she said, she would undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy.

Royal expert Katie Nicholl discussed details regarding Kate’s treatment with The Sun. She revealed the princess had a challenging experience.

Nicholl said, “I’ve been told by sources very close to the Princess of Wales that she had struggled with the treatment initially. It’s preventative chemotherapy. It’s not a pleasant thing.”

“No one wants to have to have this, you know, off the back of major surgery, a pretty long recovery period, and then she has to go through the treatment. I think it was a struggle initially and I was very, very relieved to hear from actually more than one source that she has recently turned a corner,” she concluded.

“She’s been spotted out and about with her children. Just knowing that is the most encouraging thing.”

When will Kate Middleton return to forward-facing royal duties?

Rumors continue about Kate Middleton’s return to royal duties. Some royal watchers say she will return in full capacity, while others believe the princess will pare down her workload.

Katie Nicholl believes the princess will return but at her own pace. “Everything I hear is that she will be back to work,” Nicholl reveals.

“She’s coming back 100 percent to pick up as Princess of Wales and do the great work she was doing before. It will just be in her time, when she’s ready and, crucially, when she gets the sign-off from her medical team.”

‘We need her,’ says a royal expert

Kate Nicholl believes Kate Middleton is a vital part of the monarchy. Therefore, the royal expert feels the Princess of Wales should take the time necessary to fully recover before continuing her work.

“She’s doing well and will be coming back to work. That is her intention,” Nicholl believes.

The royal expert concludes, “Kate is coming back, but it will be in her own time. All of this has shown just how vital she is to the monarchy. We need her.”

“She and William are the future. Even if she doesn’t return until the end of the year, it doesn’t matter. This is the time she needs to get better so she can come back and do the important work she’s started as Princess of Wales. There’s no hurry.”

Kate Middleton remains out of the public eye while she recovers from cancer.
