Kate Middleton vs. Meghan Markle: New Poll Reveals Which Duchess Is the Bigger ‘Superstar’
After marrying British princes, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle became two of the most famous women in the world. Even after Meghan and Harry moved stateside, the lives of both the Duchess of Sussex and Duchess of Cambridge have garnered plenty of public interest. Now a new poll has concluded that one duchess is more than twice as popular as her sister-in-law.

New poll determines whether Kate or Meghan is more popular in the U.S. now
Many polls done over the years have surveyed which woman is a favorite in the U.K. But a new poll per The Sun asked who is America’s favorite duchess and the answer may surprise you.
The latest YouGov poll done in the U.K. had Kate receiving “positive opinions” from 65% of the respondents and Meghan with a popularity rating of just 26%. But what about in the U.S.?
Express noted that the Duchess of Cambridge secured 68% of the vote compared to just 31% for the Duchess of Sussex in Meghan’s home country. This is somewhat surprising considering that Meghan and Harry have legions of fans in America where they now reside, yet Prince William’s wife Kate hasn’t been to the country since 2014.
Expert says the duchess is a ‘superstar’
In response to the latest poll, American royal commentator Christopher Andersen offered his take on why the Duchess of Cambridge is more popular even in the country the Sussexes now call home. He opined that the reasons may have to do with the way Kate handles tabloid gossip and her ability to connect with Americans.
“Kate has become an even bigger superstar,” he said. “She embodies everything Americans expect in a princess destined to become queen — beauty, grace, regal bearing, and the ability to connect. Andersen added: “Whatever royal scandal is making headlines, the Duchess of Cambridge sails above it all.”
What is Kate’s popularity rating among all royals?
While Kate is more popular than her sister-in-law, she is not the most popular royal. That honor goes to Queen Elizabeth II. Year after year the monarch tops a number of polls regarding popularity done in the U.K. and abroad.
In 2020, a YouGov poll showed that 78% of those surveyed had a positive opinion of the royal family matriarch. And in 2021, the queen had a popularity rating of 76%. Last year, Prince William came in just behind his grandmother with a 66% rating.
The least popular of all royals across the board is Prince Andrew.
