Kate Middleton’s Popularity Is the Reason She Will Accept a Title Turned Down By Camilla Parker Bowles

When Prince Charles takes the throne and becomes the King of the United Kingdom, Prince William and Kate Middleton will receive a bounty of new titles. One of those titles the Duchess of Cambridge will likely take is one of her mother-in-law Princess Diana’s most famous, that Camilla Parker Bowles actually turned down.

Kate, Duchess of Cambridge is arguably the most popular royal in the UK since Princess Diana. The duchess is so well-loved that she recently received the nickname “The Children’s Princess” because of her rapport with young people.

As her husband, Prince William, ascends to the throne over the next few years (or decades), Kate will receive new titles. According to royal experts, she will likely accept a title one day that Camilla Parker Bowles has turned down.

Kate Middleton is getting into publishing

Ever since she joined the royal family in 2011, Kate has been known somewhat as an amateur photographer. It’s Kate who takes the pictures of her kids on their birthdays and on their first day of school. Oftentimes, the palace will share Kate’s photos on their social media pages.

Amid the pandemic, Kate announced a photo project to capture life in Britain under lockdown. She has now turned that project into a book titled Hold Still: A Portrait of Our Nation in 2020.

The Duchess of Cambridge wrote the forward

The new book will feature the final 100 Hold Still portraits Kate selected for the project. It will also include the stories that go along with each image. In the front of the new book, the Duchess of Cambridge penned the forward.

“Through Hold Still, I wanted to use the power of photography to create a lasting record of what we were all experiencing — to capture individuals’ stories and document significant moments for families and communities as we lived through the pandemic,” the mom-of-three wrote.

Kate launched the photo project in May 2020, and the book will be available for sale exactly one year later. She hopes the final 100 images in the book showcase the experiences and emotions born from this “extraordinary moment in history.” The proceeds from the book will go to Kate and William’s various charities. Including the National Portrait Gallery.

“The public response to Hold Still, which was spearheaded by our Patron, Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cambridge, has been phenomenal. The photographs submitted have helped to create a unifying and cathartic portrait of life in lockdown, ” Dr Nicholas Cullinan, Director of The National Portrait Gallery, said in a statement.

Kate Middleton will be the next Princess of Wales

Currently, Kate uses the title of HRH Duchess of Cambridge. But when Prince Charles becomes king, her husband William will become the official heir apparent. The title for the heir apparent is Prince of Wales. Which means the spouse of the heir will receive the title of Princess of Wales.

Kate Middleton’s Latest Title Has a Special Connection to Princess Diana

Charles has been the longest-serving heir apparent in royal history. And his first wife, the late Princess Diana, used the title Princess of Wales. But his second wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, opted not to use the title.

Why did Camilla Parker Bowles turn down the title?

According to Express, royal expert Marlene Koenig says that Camilla didn’t take the title because she wasn’t well-liked compared to Diana.

“Camilla was not popular or well-liked, [though] this has changed a lot since the marriage as Camilla has taken on a lot of patronages and Charles is a lot happier,” Koenig said. “Still, [there was] a lot of tension and anger among a certain element of the population—so it was decided that Camilla would be styled as the Duchess of Cornwall, even though, of course, she is the Princess of Wales.”

Like Camilla, Kate will also have the option of turning down the title. However, the expectation is that she will adopt the Princess of Wales title as a way to honor her late mother-in-law.
