Kathie Lee Gifford Doubted Her Faith at a Critical Moment: ‘It’s a Nightmare I Wouldn’t Wish on an Enemy’
Kathie Lee Gifford is a television presenter, singer, songwriter, actor, and author. However, Gifford’s highlight is that she is a firm believer, and her faith knows no bounds. When speaking, she always mentions the power of God and how it has changed her life.
The presenter was married to an NFL player, Frank Gifford, who died in 2015. She has two children, Cassidy Erin Gifford and Cody Gifford. She featured in two live shows; Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee and Today with Kathie Lee and Hoda.
What is Gifford’s take on faith?
Gifford became a Christian when she was 12 years old. Speaking on CBN news, she said, “I was a big Bible nerd from the time I became a Christian when I was 12 years old.”
In a recent podcast with host Danny Pellegrino, she spoke candidly about what she thought about faith. She started by saying that faith is challenging, because: “Faith requires us to believe things we cannot see. Faith requires us to trust God’s promises, but we have no idea when he’s going to make them come true … It’s hard.” Gifford continues to explain.
According to Gifford, her story is not about how faithful she has been to God, but her story is about how God has been faithful to her. “And He’s not going to stop doing that now,” Gifford says, referring to God’s faithfulness.
Gifford had a rough patch in her marriage
Like any other person, Gifford has faced challenges in her life. Her life’s most significant setback was when it was revealed that her husband was cheating. It was back in 1997 when the husband (Frank Gifford) was caught cheating with Suzen Johnson.
On her Today segment in 2017, when Gifford’s co-host, Hoda Kotb, asked Gifford whether she thought about leaving her husband, her response was, “Yes, of course, you are broken. You are broken by it.” Their marriage survived, but Gifford still remembers that ordeal.
Gifford said to People that the time of this scandal was among the most painful moments of her life. Speaking to Pellegrino, she also reiterated the ordeal, and she said, “It’s a nightmare I wouldn’t wish on an enemy if I had one.” She says that what made the issue worse was that it was on every tabloid, every newspaper, and late-night comics were joking about it.
Gifford doubted her faith during the trying times
The conversation about faith in Pellegrino’s podcast started when he talked about being a Catholic who struggled with faith. He asked Gifford whether she had ever lost faith.
She stated that when she writes about someone, the person always struggles with their faith. Gifford went on to narrate about her view on faith, as mentioned above.
She also spoke about her tough times when her husband was caught cheating. However, she stated that she never stopped believing in Jesus. “I never stopped believing that God is a good God,” Gifford explained.
Despite believing in God, Gifford sometimes felt as if God had forgotten about her. In the interview, she concluded her remarks by saying, “I felt at times, though, that He’s gotten so busy that He’s forgotten me. I think a lot of people can relate with that.”
Gifford has had some trying times, and anyone facing such times would have given up faith, at least for a little while. However, Gifford eventually was able to find her way back to her faith.
