Kathryn Hahn is a queen of the screen, and her husband, Ethan Sandler, knows it. Hahn’s performance on WandaVision marked her first foray into a project with that huge of a budget. And while playing a Marvel villain comes with a lot impressive stunts, elaborate costumes, and special effects, one simple aspect of the show made Sandler emotional.

Who is Kathryn Hahn’s husband, Ethan Sandler?

Hahn and Sandler have been together since they met in college in the 1990s. They were both studying theater at Northwestern University and have been together ever since. They were once co-stars on NBC’s Crossing Jordan and Transparent, and Sandler was an executive producer/writer for New Girl and Man With a Plan.

The couple shares two children, Leonard Sandler and Mae Sandler, and they gave Hahn an Avengers education when she was preparing to play Agatha Harkness. As she told Seth Meyers on Late Night with Seth Meyers:

“I was able to do a deep dive on Agatha Harkness, but I definitely needed a little bit of help with the Avengers and going backwards. Because it was a little bit of a word salad, walking into this. I couldn’t remember who is who and what was what. And so they were—my son especially was—like, a huge, huge help.”

Sandler and the kids also staged a “computer intervention” for Hahn after the success of Marvel’s first show on Disney+. Hahn had never owned her own computer, and they told her enough was enough. She got her first computer in February 2021.

Who is Agatha Harkness ‘WandaVision’?

In WandaVision, Hahn’s character appears to just be a nosy neighbor in Wanda Maximoff’s complexly hexed town of Westview. She’s one of the first characters to break the fourth wall in the series, confusing both Wanda and Vision, and is a staple for every sitcom episode Wanda’s subconscious drums up.

Agnes spends a lot of time cracking jokes about her “husband” Ralph, and is seen mainly as comic relief until things start to get heavy. But episode 7 was a huge turning point. The end of the episode reveals that all of the confusing mishaps happening in the perfect little world Wanda built for herself, Vision, and their sons were being run by Agnes the whole time.

Her real name is Agatha Harkness, and she’s not trapped in Westview like the rest of the residents. She’s a powerful witch from the time of the Salem witch trials, and she inserted herself into Westview to figure out how Wanda cast her spell.

Kathryn Hahn’s husband loved the sitcom version of Agnes in ‘WandaVision’

Sandler loved the moments before Agatha’s true identity was revealed the most, according to Hahn. She told The New York Times that the sitcom recreations were Sandler’s favorite part.

“My husband put it perfectly. He was like, seeing you in the sitcom portion of the show, I saw the you that I saw in college,” she said. “I haven’t seen that part of you in so long — just you, hamboning it. It was so fun to be able to let go in those ways.”

Indeed, fans would have loved Hahn’s performance in the show even Agnes was just one of the trapped residents. She brought a perfect level of camp to each sitcom style, and Marvel fans are grateful for it.
