Katy Perry Admits She Was Uncertain About Motherhood Before Dating Orlando Bloom
Katy Perry rose to fame as a pop star with hits like “I Kissed a Girl,” “California Gurls,” and “Teenage Dream.”
Nowadays, Perry also has another full-time job: Being a mother. However, the singer recently admitted that she was hesitant about embarking on this motherhood journey until she started dating her current husband, Orlando Bloom.

In August 2020, Perry and Bloom welcomed their daughter, Daisy. Since then, Perry has opened up about her thoughts on motherhood.
“As a new mom, those first six weeks are like, ‘What?’ It’s just the biggest life change ever,” Perry told Variety in the fall of 2021. “You’re responsible for someone’s well-being that can’t even hold their head up. It’s a real shift, and you become not No. 1 on the call sheet. And it’s the best.”
She also added, “I never really truly knew about unconditional love. Obviously my mother has that for me, but I didn’t really experience it in the first-person until I had my child. And that was just a whole ‘nother level. I think I see through the eyes of a child — like my life and my art always feels playful — so it’s amazing to be able to relate to kids even in your deep 30s.”
In an Instagram Live from January 2021, she also shared that having a child has taught her to be more present.
“I think that you realize that when you become a mother… you just have to focus on being a mom,” Perry said. She added, “In a way, it’s really encouraged me to be even more present and to value every day. And all we have is this moment. That’s what’s promised is this moment and nothing else.”

Although Perry seems to be enjoying motherhood, the star recently shared that this life path was not always something she envisioned for herself.
“I wasn’t very maternal and I think that probably stems from some childhood stuff,” she said on the podcast Dear Chelsea. However, Perry admitted she was “very maternal” with her friends because she enjoys taking care of people.
Nonetheless, Perry went on a “journey” to understand more about herself and “found a little spot that needed tuning up.” Additionally, being with Bloom—whom she started dating in 2016—helped her envision life as a mom.
“I got to see what a great dad he was with his first child, Flynn, who is now 11,” she explained. “So that definitely, primally influenced me. Like, something inside of me said, ‘You, mid-30s. This man is nice. Must breed.’ He is a kind man.”
Perry also revealed that motherhood is the “best decision” she has made.

Perry understands very well what life as a pop star is like. After becoming a mother, she also found surprising similarities between these two roles.
“Now that I’m a mom, my life is actually kinda totally different. And yet, I realized it’s kinda similar to being a pop star,” Perry joked when she hosted The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “You’re up all night—usually holding a bottle of some kind. There’s vomit on the floor. And your boobs are always out.”
