Katy Perry Easily Hid Her Pregnancy Because She’s Always Been ‘Curvy and Hungry’
Singer and American Idol judge Katy Perry is now happily engaged to the love of her life, actor Orlando Bloom, with a baby on the way. Despite the possibility of not getting married until after the birth of their child, due to postponing their wedding over concerns about the Coronavirus, the two are still managing to share their love with the world in style. From Bloom’s flashy helicopter proposal to Perry’s touching pregnancy reveal, these two stars are keeping fans on their toes and blown away with their love.
Katy Perry announced her pregnancy in a new music video
On March 4th at midnight EST (9 pm for those on the west coast), Perry dropped her new music video for her song “Never Worn White.” The lyrics, about soon-to-be-husband Bloom, are touching:
“Thank God that you were man enough to come answer my mamma’s prayers. You asked the question. I said, ‘Yes’, but I’m scared.”
The two had a rocky start, breaking up early in their relationship but have been going strong since February of 2018. By the following year on Valentine’s Day, he had proposed. Their wedding has had several rumored postponed dates and no future date set as of now.
At the end of the music video, Perry is shown cupping her stomach in the white dress she’s been singing in. The very last shot switches to Perry in a new outfit, facing to the side in a classic maternity pose. Her baby bump is revealed behind white, sheer fabric.
No one suspected Katy Perry’s pregnancy
Just after the video dropped Perry called SiriusXM Hits 1 to talk about the news. She chatted about how excited she and Bloom are about their new phase in life together. She shared that no one suspected anything about her pregnancy and speculated as to why.
She said: “I’ve always been hungry, and I’ve never liked crunches, so they just thought I was curvy and hungry. And yes, I am curvy and hungry!”
Her choice of outfits helped hide her pregnancy too. Perry has been known for wearing her share of ostentatious outfits throughout her years in the spotlight. Whether she was wearing a giant bow on the front of her dress, or an oversized blazer, or a smock with flowing fabric, no one suspected that underneath her outfit of the day was a hidden baby bump.
She also went on Instagram Live after her video released and said: “There’s a lot that will be happening this summer. Not only will I be giving birth — literally — but also figuratively, to something you guys have been waiting for.”
Katy Perry revealed her pregnancy to her family first
Perry, 35, was able to reveal the big news to her grandmother as she lay on her hospital bed just before she passed. Perry later shared photos of her and Bloom with her grandmother and a touching video of the moment to her Instagram:
“Grandma, it’s Katy,” she said a few times, “I wanted to share some exciting news with you. I’m going to tell you that I’m gonna have a baby. I’m pregnant, Grandma.”
Her grandmother heard and reacted slightly, saying, “uh uh” at the end. Her response caused Perry and the others in the room to laugh.
Perry’s mother, on the other hand, found out before the singer intended. Perry had planned to gift her mother a bottle of wine with the baby announcement on the label. Before she was able to follow through with her plan, however, her mother visited her house and took a browse around her wine collection. Perry said was strange because her mother never looks at her wine. Her mother discovered the bottle then, ahead of schedule. Perry attributes it to a mother’s intuition.
Now that the news of her pregnancy is finally out in the open, Perry has tweeted that she’s glad she no longer has to “suck it in” or carry a big purse.
