Katy Perry Explains the Mature Reason Why She Let Go of Taylor Swift Feud
Katy Perry and Taylor Swift are two of the biggest pop stars on the planet, so when the two of them began feuding with one another, it attracted a huge amount of attention.
However, it seems that these days, both Perry and Swift are trying to put the past behind them. In fact, they both might actually become friends soon. So what exactly caused this change of heart and why are they no longer feuding? Read on below to find out.
Why did Katy Perry and Taylor Swift start feuding?
Perry and Swift used to be on good terms, but they started becoming at odds with each other in 2012.
At this time, Swift was preparing for her Red tour and she had three backup dancers in her lineup who used to work with Perry.
While the preparations were going on, the three dancers were suddenly offered spots on Perry’s upcoming Prismatic World Tour. They accepted, which did not make Swift happy.
One dancer, Lockhart Brownlie, told the Examiner that, while they had fun working with Swift, the dancers were closer to Perry.
“We were with Katy for 2 and 1/2 years, she’s like family to us, so we were, like, ‘absolutely’,” Brownlie revealed. “We weren’t really dancing in Taylor’s tour anyway so I had got a little bored and I really wanted to do a promo tour.”
In Swift’s view, Perry was pulling dirty tricks to make Swift’s tour more of a failure. “She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour,” Swift said in an interview with Rolling Stones. “She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me.”
In response to the accusations against her, Perry accused Swift of trying to act like a victim. Perry tweeted: “Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing…”
The two singers went on to release music to call each other out. In 2014, Swift released her song “Bad Blood” with her friend Selena Gomez wearing a wig to look like Perry.
Meanwhile, Perry herself released a song called “Swish Swish” that had the lyrics: “Don’t you come for me. God bless you on your journey, oh baby girl.”
When did Perry and Swift begin to make amends?
After several years of feuding, the relationship between Perry and Swift started looking better in 2018.
On her Reputation tour, Swift received a literal olive branch from Perry along with a note that read: “Hey Old Friend — I’ve been doing some reflecting on past miscommunications and hurt feelings between us. I really want to clear the air… I’m deeply sorry…”
According to Swift, the two of them also ran into each other at a party and decided to have a real conversation about their relationship. This ultimately led to them building a bigger bond with one another.
Why did Perry choose to let go of her feud with Swift?
Perry also recently shared the reason why she wanted to reach out to Swift in order to put the feud behind them. In a radio interview with Australia’s KIIS 106.5 station, Perry said:
“I sent her a literal olive branch and a note apologizing for my part in all of it when she started her Reputation tour. I just thought she was about to embark on something new and big and needed the support. As I was finishing mine, I realized how much we have in common, and maybe there’s only five other people in the world that can have the same type of conversations and understand where we’re coming from and that we should celebrate our commonality and our friendship and be able to be there for each other.”
Additionally, Perry revealed that, while they started talking to each other at parties, they built mutual trust and it gradually turned into exchanging numbers. The two of them kept in touch and Perry even went to Swift’s house, where Swift made cookies for her.
Ultimately, Perry said that, in patching things up with Swift, she can set an example for fans who could be going through similar problems.
