Fans and critics know pop superstar Katy Perry for her over-the-top fashion. However, she upped the ante in her “Dark Horse” music video by donning a dazzling diamond-studded grill on her teeth. Perry sported a literal million-dollar smile that now holds a Guinness World Record.

The “Dark Horse” music video begins with Katy Perry lounging on an archaic Egyptian boat as her attendants serve and sail her through the Nile. The scene then shifts to a throne hall where “Queen Katy Patra” receives a slew of would-be consorts. Confidently, the first man struts into the queen’s presence and presents her with a huge diamond. She excitedly accepts the gem and surprisingly turns the suitor into dust, leaving behind a bejeweled grill that she dons.

The second fellow presents food, sweets, and what looks like spicy Cheetos to the monarch. After consuming a bite of the crunchy snack, she requests a drink to cool her palate. The distinguished gentleman falls short and instantly turns to dust (Thanos vibes, anybody?) and a glass of water.

Inadvisably, the third guy comes forth with an ostentatious golden carriage hopping like a Southern California lowrider. Perry seemingly enjoys the moment as she dances with her attendants, but the third suitor turns to dust and a pair of golden dice.

The fourth man walks in, but his face is shrouded in a sheet of chainmail. He unveils himself to reveal a golden crocodile visage. The shocked Katy Patra turns him into a golden purse.

The last man arrives with the mother of all gifts: an awe-inspiring golden pyramid. Perry ascends to the pyramidion. However, the shmuck also disintegrates, leaving behind a tiny Nemes-crown-wearing dog.

Katy Perry’s record-breaking grill is worth a cool $1 million

Katy Perry leads a life that we mere mortals can only fantasize about. Yet this gulf couldn’t have been more evident than with the one-of-a-kind oral prop she wore in the “Dark Horse” music video.

The dental savant behind the mouthpiece was Dr. William “Bill” Dorfman. Per Guinness World Records, this masterpiece is the planet’s most valuable grill.

It has an eye-popping price tag of $1 million. What would you expect from a piece encrusted with diamonds and other precious gems? Johnny Wujek, Perry’s makeup artist, must have been familiar with Dr. Dorfman’s work on the TV show Extreme Makeover because he was the one who requested the custom grill for the video.

The doctor created the glittering accessory with the assistance of XIV Karat Jewelers and DaVinci Labs. Yet Dorfman and Perry aren’t strangers to world records. The former achieved his first in 2010 for the most money raised by an individual through head-shaving for charity and made $121,000. And Perry holds various records, the most recent being the first person to achieve 100 million Twitter followers.

Why is the original ‘Dark Horse’ music video gone?

Since humankind came to acknowledge a higher authority as the source of existence, the battles for or against religious tolerance have raged. That’s why the original video for “Dark Horse” had to be re-edited — it carried connotations of blasphemy.

More than 65,000 people signed a Change.org petition to have the video removed from YouTube. What was so wrong about the video, you ask? Well, the first disintegrated suitor wore an Arabic pendant reportedly inscribed with the word “Allah.” In Islam, this word represents the faithful’s conception of God.

The Guardian cited the man, Shazad Iqbal, a Bradfordian, as saying, “At 01:15 into the video ‘Dark Horse,’ a man is shown being burned whilst wearing a pendant (also burned) forming the word ‘Allah,’ which is the Arabic word for God.”

He added, “Such goes to show that blasphemy is clearly conveyed in the video since Katy Perry (who appears to be representing an opposition of God) engulfs the believer and the word ‘God’ in flames.”

Consequently, the original “Dark Horse” video was removed and altered. The updated version doesn’t contain the offensive depiction. At the time of this writing, Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” music video has over 3.2 billion views on the artist’s official YouTube channel.
