1 of Keanu Reeves’ Co-Stars Outdid Him with a ‘Sexy’ Improvisation
For such a beloved actor, Keanu Reeves seems to have kept his ego in check. The actor has, of course, seen his career come roaring back since the mid-2010s, thanks largely to the John Wick series. And yet, Reeves is still surprised by how much his fans adore him. However, one of his recent co-stars admitted The Matrix actor was one-upped by another actor in a particularly alluring way.
Keanu Reeves delivered a standout performance in 2019’s Netflix comedy ‘Always Be My Maybe’
2014’s John Wick undeniably served as the turning point that put Reeves back in the public consciousness. But in the years since, he’s made an impact in a variety of ways beyond the John Wick sequels. 2019 perhaps marked the apex of the recent Reeves Renaissance. That year, the actor not only starred in John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum but also delivered a pair of standout supporting performances as well.
Reeves shines as Duke Caboom — “Canada’s greatest stuntman” — in Toy Story 4. But while the Pixar sequel is actually the biggest hit of his career, it’s the actor’s other 2019 role that made headlines. In Netflix comedy Always Be My Maybe, Reeves plays a fictionalized version of himself. And fans loved seeing the actor poke fun at his own image, as the movie’s Reeves turns out to be nothing like what fans perceive the real deal to be.
Ali Wong was more impressed by another of the actor’s co-stars while making the romantic movie
The movie centers on the relationship between Marcus (Randall Park) and Sasha (Ali Wong). But over the course of the movie, Wong is faced with a few on-screen suitors. Reeves — in his brief appearance — plays one such character. But in a guest appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Wong revealed she was more wowed by something Daniel Dae Kim did during filming than her kissing scene with Reeves.
“I kiss a lot of sexy men [in the movie]. I basically made Netflix spend all this money on a movie just so I could kiss Daniel Dae Kim and Keanu Reeves,” Wong told DeGeneres before comparing the two actors. “[Daniel Dae Kim] improvised lifting me up [during a scene], and that was even more exciting than kissing Keanu. I told my best friend, ‘He lifted me up and it wasn’t even a problem for him.’ That was so sexy to me.”
Keanu Reeves only agreed to the role because he is a fan of Ali Wong’s comedy
Even though Reeves was upstaged by Kim, the actor and his fans still found his role in Always Be My Maybe to be a thrill. In fact, the actor reportedly only signed on for the extended cameo because he’s a fan of Wong’s stand-up comedy. Following the film’s release on Netflix, Reeves’ role generated a ton of buzz, driving even more subscribers to stream the movie.
Naturally, Reeves followed his epic 2019 by continuing to give his loyal fans what they want. The actor reprised his role as Ted “Theodore” Logan in 2020’s Bill and Ted Face the Music. And he’s set to return for 2021’s The Matrix 4. Beyond that, he’s coming back for more high-octane action for John Wick: Chapter 4, currently in production.
