Reeves’ training requirements for The Matrix and John Wick differed between the two big action movie franchises.

Reeves has two big action franchises currently on his hands. The Matrix Resurrections is a big return for the franchise. Warner Bros. is making its first return to the series since 2003’s The Matrix Revolutions. Despite the big gap, the trailer instantly trended on social media. It captures nostalgia for long-time fans, but it also brings The Matrix to a whole new generation.

John Wick is bringing its fourth installment to the silver screen. John Wick 4 recently wrapped filming. The coronavirus (COVID-19) pushed production, but audiences will get to hop back into the assassin universe in 2022. John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum increased the scope and scale from the previous entries. John Wick 4 will surely bring another jump in high-octane action sequences with its impressive fight choreography.

Keanu Reeves’ training differed between ‘John Wick’ and ‘The Matrix’

The official BuzzFeed YouTube channel gave Reeves fans the opportunity to ask him questions while he plays with adorable puppies. They ranged from filmography-based questions to personal celebrity questions. One fan asked about the training that goes into the John Wick and The Matrix movies.

“I did a lot of training and it was really fun,” Reeves answered. “The Matrix, the first time was learning wire and kung-fu. That was months and months and months. John Wick was judo and jiu-jitsu and a lot more gun manipulation. And there was lots and lots and lots and lots.”

The John Wick and The Matrix choreographies are some of the most iconic in Hollywood. They’re constantly replicated in other movies, as they try to capture the same level of intensity that audiences have come to expect and crave.

Reeves continued: “I love doing action films. I love the training. I love being there as much as I can to create the relationship between the character and the audience.”
