Keanu Reeves’s Favorite Movie Is Not ‘The Matrix,’ ‘Speed,’ or ‘John Wick’
Keanu Reeves used to be one of the most in-demand stars in Hollywood. After a career slump, he’s managed to revive his career and stay at the top.
In his early career, he was best known for movies like My Own Private Idaho or Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. But soon, he became an action hero.
These action movies, such as Speed, The Matrix, and John Wick became his bread and butter, but they weren’t his favorite movies. That said, he loves action films, and in fact, his favorite movie that he’s done was an action movie.
Here’s a look at why Keanu Reeves absolutely loved working on Point Break.
A look at Keanu Reeves’ career
Reeves has been acting since the 80s, and it didn’t take him long before he started getting the attention of some of the biggest names in Hollywood. His early hits, such as Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Point Break helped earn him a part in Francis Ford Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
Not long after, he became a full-time action hero, as his role as Neo in The Matrix earn him millions. But after The Matrix trilogy wrapped up, as well as some personal tragedies, Reeves hit a low point in his career.
Most of the movies that he did after The Matrix just didn’t do so well. In 2013, his action film 47 Ronin was a massive flop, but fortunately for him, a year later, John Wick premiered, and it was a return to form for him. After John Wick, he still got cast in a couple of bad movies, but by and large, he’s on the up and up nowadays.
What Keanu Reeves said about ‘Point Break’
As the South China Morning Post reported, out of all the movies that he’s ever done, one of his favorite movies was one of his earliest ones, Point Break. In hindsight, Point Break was a wild film, since it featured Reeves playing an FBI agent who’s trying to infiltrate a bank robbing gang of surfer dudes led by Patrick Swayze’s character, Bodhi.
But, like Reeves said, he loved the film for a lot of reasons, and one of those reasons was because of how Kathryn Bigelow, the director of Point Break, decided to shoot the movie. Reeves said that she, “had this incredibly cool vision of the kind of world she wanted to create.” Additionally, he loved how she portrayed many aspects of the story.
For example, surfing is a major component of the film, and Reeves said that the movie “portrayed surfing with so much beauty and the passion for riding waves.” There’s also a major action scene involving skydiving, and like Reeves said, he’s had many fans tell him how powerful those surfing and skydiving scenes in Point Break were.
Why Keanu Reeves loved ‘Point Break’
And, like the South China Morning Post wrote, one of the other reasons why Reeves loved Point Break so much was because he could relate to all of those fans who took up surfing and skydiving after watching the movie. He said that their passion for those hobbies reminded him of his passion for motorcycle riding. Like Reeves said, “I know exactly how they feel.”
Point Break was relatively successful at the box office when it premiered in 1991, but it’s become a bigger hit afterward. In fact, in 2015, Hollywood decided to remake Point Break, but neither Reeves nor Bigelow returned to their roles.
As a result, the remake didn’t do well at the box office, and fans and critics didn’t like it either. Regardless, the original remains as one of the many highlights in Reeves’s career.
