Kelly Clarkson’s Jaw-Dropping Transformation: How She Shed 60 Pounds
Kelly Clarkson realized she needed to lose weight when she caught a glimpse of herself on camera and didn’t recognize who she saw. Before that fateful day, The Kelly Clarkson Show host didn’t notice how much weight she had gained. Realizing she had to take control of her health, Clarkson worked with her doctor on a weight loss plan to address her issues, ultimately losing 60 pounds.
Kelly Clarkson’s weight loss helpd by medication and lifestyle change
In January 2024, Kelly Clarkson told People Magazine that heeding her doctor’s advice spurred a lifestyle change. At that time, Clarkson did not share she had used any weight loss medication to drop the pounds.
Instead, the entertainer admitted she had overhauled her diet and had listened to her doctor. She told People, “I eat a healthy mix. I dropped weight because I’ve been listening to my doctor — for a couple years I didn’t.”
She continued, “And 90 percent of the time I’m really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway. I’m a Texas girl, so I like meat — sorry, vegetarians in the world!”
At the time, the mother of two credited walking around New York City as part of her exercise routine. “Walking in the city is a great workout,” Clarkson admitted.
Subsequently, in a May 2024 interview with Kelly Clarkson Show guest Whoopi Goldberg, Clarkson admitted to using medication as part of her weight loss regimen. She said, “My doctor chased me for like two years, and I was like, ‘No, I’m afraid of it.'”
Clarkson clarified she is not on Ozempic. However, the medication she uses is one “that aids in helping break down the sugar, which my body doesn’t do well.”
Kelly Clarkson and team didn’t ‘see’ her gradual weight increase
Speaking to Whoopi Goldberg, Kelly Clarkson admitted that she didn’t notice she had gained weight. She claimed that even those closest to her didn’t realize the difference.
“We were in my house in New York, like, watching [the show],” Clarkson admitted. “Then all of a sudden I paused and I was like, ‘Who the f*** is that?’ I swear to God, it sounds insane.”
She added, “I looked at my manager and she was like, ‘I’m kind of as shocked as you.’ I think [it’s] because your people are with you the whole time, so it’s gradual. You don’t even realize.”
Clarkson said she was never “insecure” about her weight and that she was “happy.” She then admitted that at her heaviest she was 203 pounds.
Seeing herself at that weight frightened Clarkson. She felt that any second, that version of her was “going to die.”
Clarkson tried to lose weight to help regulate thyroid and autoimmune issues
In 2018, Kelly Clarkson revealed to Extra she had thyroid and autoimmune issues. Therefore, she revamped her diet in an effort to address them.
Walking the carpet for the CMAs, Clarkson admitted she dropped 37 pounds by following a specific diet.
“I literally read this book, and I did it for this autoimmune disease that I had and I had a thyroid issue, and now all my levels are back up. I’m not on medicine anymore because of this book, it’s called ‘The Plant Paradox (by Steven R. Gundry, MD),” Clarkson explained.
The Plant Paradox diet requires followers to eliminate lectin-rich foods per Healthline. It is a restrictive diet, requiring users to eliminate many foods including fruit, grains, dairy, and some vegetables in favor of meat, greens, some nuts and fish.
