Celebrities often have weird starts to performing. Blake Shelton is no different. Kelly Clarkson had him on as a guest for her show and put him on blast for starting in beauty pageants.

The singers have been good friends for some time. They were connected before The Voice because Clarkson’s estranged husband, Brandon Blackstock manages both of them. Shelton was reportedly going to officiate their wedding, but they decided to elope in 2013.

They have a friendly rivalry since they lead their own teams on The Voice. Shelton’s team has won seven times and Clarkson’s team has won three times.

The coaches have opened up about their personal friendship on her talk show. She previously revealed one way she doesn’t trust him.

Clarkson said she doesn’t trust Shelton

Shelton was a guest on The Kelly Clarkson Show in February. Clarkson revealed she doesn’t trust the country singer with embarrassing texts.

“Never send that to Blake Shelton,” she advised. “I know you love Blake, but he will take—never trust him with something important, footage wise. No, I, I’m…just don’t trust him!”

Clarkson said there are famous friends who send her drunk texts, which she wouldn’t do. “No, I have a few friends in the limelight that randomly do that,” she said. “The Pentatonix are one as well. And it is great. I’m like, ‘Y’all, should not do that. This is blackmail.’ I never do that I’m afraid people will show it.”

Shelton was once again a guest on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Oct. 16. She asked him about his first performance, and he said it was when he was in a pageant.

“My mom used to put me in, I don’t remember which one was first, I just have memories of doing these things,” he said. Shelton said his mother did it because of the talent portion of the pageant, but he still had to dress up for sections like evening wear.

“You’re such an a******,” he said to Clarkson. “Yes, yes, yes, I did those things. I do remember my two specialties were, I did ‘Old Time Rock & Roll’ by Bob Seger, and I would do ‘Cat Scratch Fever’ by Ted Nugent, which didn’t go over very well with the soccer moms in the audience because, I don’t know if you ever heard that song or what it’s about, but you can imagine, I think.”

The talk show host also brought up how he had the nickname “Break Dance Blake.” He said he took one break dance lesson to get the nickname. “Break dancing was huge, not yet in Ada, Oklahoma,” he explained.

Obviously, Shelton didn’t become an expert in break dancing. But it looks like the pageants paid off in the end.
