The country music star encouraged Clarkson’s ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, to propose to Clarkson in the first place, and the stars have countless funny stories to share thanks to their time on The Voice. Unfortunately, Shelton might not be a fan of Clarkson’s friendship with his ex-wife, Miranda Lambert. Here’s what a source explained.
Kelly Clarkson’s new friendship with Miranda Lambert might upset Blake Shelton, according to an insider
Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert were among the most prominent couples in country music. They tied the knot in 2011 but divorced just four years later in 2015. While they’ve moved forward with new relationships, they don’t appear to have stayed friends after the split.
While Shelton and Lambert won’t sustain a friendship, Kelly Clarkson, one of Shelton’s good friends, has no problem hanging out with his ex-wife. Lambert joined Clarkson in a September 2024 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show. The two singers performed a song together, and Clarkson allegedly changed her tune regarding how she felt toward Lambert.
“Kelly was Team Blake for a long, long time and Gwen [Stefani], too, by default, but now that she’s gotten to know Miranda better, she doesn’t know what Blake’s talking about,” a source told Life & Style.
The insider added that Clarkson “realized” that Lambert is “not a baddie at all” despite what Shelton said in the past. “[I]n fact, she’s a sweetheart, and she’s going to give her support and be kind and generous even if it jeopardizes her friendship with Blake.”
The source noted that Lambert is “putting on the charm” with Clarkson, as she knows of Clarkson and Shelton’s friendship. “No one would put it past Miranda to steal Kelly away and fill her head with junk about her ex,” they added. “The feeling is Kelly would believe anything. She’s incredibly nice but gullible.”

Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton knew each other well before working as coaches on The Voice. Shelton was one of Brandon Blackstock’s clients and encouraged Blackstock to propose to Clarkson. When Blackstock and Clarkson split in 2020, Clarkson and Shelton remained close.
“Blake and Kelly are extremely close,” an insider told Us Weekly in 2021. “Their friendship and bond goes beyond the business.”
In June 2020, another source told Us Weekly that Shelton was the “supportive” friend that Clarkson needed during her divorce. “Blake has been supportive and the friend she has needed, as always,” the source explained.
Clarkson also busted on Shelton when he decided to leave The Voice. “He’s been doing it a long time, and I think it’s a really cool way that we all know he’s leaving so we get the time to, like — I mean, I can’t stand him, but I also love him,” she told NBC Insider in February 2023. “So we get the time to actually, like, lift him up and say how great he is. He is the ultimate coach on this show. Everybody knows that.”

Will Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton ever want to hang out as friends? A source told Life & Style that Lambert and Shelton have zero interest in attending events where the other is the “star attraction.”
“Miranda doesn’t want to attend any event where Blake is the star attraction, and vice versa,” the insider noted. “Their egos can’t handle it, and the brutal reality is that they can’t stand the sight of each other. They’re totally competitive, and there’s no love lost, and they don’t want any awkward confrontations. Some might say they don’t want the other to steal their spotlight.”
With this in mind, we doubt that Kelly Clarkson and Lambert will attend a Shelton concert together in the future.
