Kelsea Ballerini and Morgan Evans are one of country music’s most famous power couples, tying the knot in 2017. However, what do we know about the couple’s relationship before they got married?
How did Kelsea Ballerini and Morgan Evans meet?
Ballerini and Evans met in March of 2016 while co-hosting Australia’s Country Music Channel Awards. While they were introduced at the show’s rehearsals, it wasn’t until the afterparty that the pair got closer.
“He was like, ‘Let’s take a shot,’” Ballerini told People. “I remember taking that shot and putting it down and looking at him like, ‘Oh … he’s superhot.’ Later that night he leaned over and asked if he could kiss me, like a proper gentleman, and I said yes.”
The country music couple made their red carpet debut in November of that same year at the 2016 Country Music Awards. Evans cheered her on as she competed for female vocalist of the year and new artist of the year.

That Christmas, Evans proposed and Ballerini said yes. The couple announced their engagement on Instagram, with Ballerini captioning a since-deleted post, “This morning, 9 months and 13 days [after the night they co-hosted Australia’s Country Music Channel Awards], he got down on one knee in the kitchen while I was burning pancakes and asked me to marry him. Loving him has been the greatest gift of my life. And now I get to do it for life.”
They got married December 2, 2017, on the beach in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, joined by 100 friends and family members.
“Kelsea’s vows were, as you would expect, poetic, sweet — like, mind-blowingly good. Our officiant was like, ‘Hey, Morgan, beat that!'” Evans told People. “I said mine, and I was going to finish with a few lines of the first song I wrote for her [‘Dance With Me’]. I got halfway through them, and she started to lose it, then I started to lose it — so I ended up having to cut it a little bit short!”
Since Ballerini and Evans are both musicians, fans eagerly awaited collaboration between the two, and they didn’t have to wait long. The couple released “Dance With Me” a year after they tied the knot.
Evans wrote the song about Ballerini, but didn’t initially plan on having her sing on the track. However, after Ballerini asked him to feature on one of her songs, he felt she needed to do the same. The song featured on his 2018 album, Things That We Drink To, and quickly became a fan-favorite.
The country couple has commented about their marriage
Ballerini and Evans are very open about their relationship, frequently posting pictures of each other and speaking candidly about their marriage.
“It’s work, but it’s worth it,” Ballerini told People. “We approach our relationship so differently, but [Evans] shows up — he shows up in every way he needs to.”
Evans echoed Ballerini’s comments in a recent Instagram post: “So proud of you, for all of your achievements of course, but more so for the way you carry yourself through it all. You don’t need to talk or post about strength or kindness or intelligence or talent … you just do it, you are it. The real deal.”
Ballerini and Evans are one of country music’s cutest couples and, based on their continued public statements of love for each other, it looks like they plan on staying that way!
