Kendall Jenner Critics Have Been Calling Her ‘Candle Jenner’ for Years
Kendall Jenner may very well be at the height of her career. At just 24 years old, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star has earned herself the title of the highest-paid model in the world for the past two years. Jenner is able to supplement her modeling income with brand deals, Instagram ads, and, of course, her family’s hit reality show. Though Jenner is still quite young, she already boasts a staggering net worth of $45 million.
But, Jenner isn’t just successful monetarily. Her celebrity status has also allowed her to wield an enormous amount of influence. With an astounding 130 million Instagram followers, Jenner has found a place amongst influencers in the height of social media marketing. With a single Instagram post, Jenner can make upwards of $600,000.

However, with increased success comes increased scrutiny. Jenner’s fame and fortune certainly don’t preclude her from harsh criticism. Though people typically view her as the most “chill” of the KarJenner sisters, she still receives backlash for many of her decisions. Sometimes the decisions she makes warrant intense criticism (e.g. her Pepsi commercial and her involvement in Fyre Festival) but, other times, it’s about things she can’t control i.e. her height and her introverted personality.
But, one criticism that persistently comes up about Jenner centers around her modeling career. Critics of Jenner have often stated that her success in the fashion industry hinged entirely on the fame and wealth of her family. For years, many people have called Jenner’s modeling “mediocre” at best. They have critiqued her walk on the runway, stating that she lacked energy and passion. They have also called her photos boring to the point of being uninspiring.
The model posts new photos to Twitter and Instagram
On May 23, 2020, Jenner took to her social media profiles to share new pictures from a recent photoshoot. “New @voguejapan cover story by @giampaolosgura!” Jenner captioned the five photos. The photos show the 24-year-old in various photos around the house. Jenner is seeing mowing the lawn, lounging by the pool, in the kitchen, etc.
While many people enjoyed the photos, plenty of critics felt that they weren’t compelling in the slightest. “The lack of energy just inspired me to stay in bed all day, ily sm Kenny for giving us nothing. You’re the sister I wish I had,” one person wrote sarcastically. “YES we love that blank stare energy!” another person chimed in. “These are so bland,” one Instagram user shared. “It just keeps getting worse every single time,” another person co-signed.
Twitter users call the ‘KUWTK’ star ‘Candle Jenner’
Others took things a step further and began to refer to Jenner as “Candle Jenner.” Their reasoning was that her modeling and personality is as boring as that of a candle. “LMAFOOOOO YES CANDLE JENNER GIVE US NOTHING,” one Twitter user commented on Jenner’s tweet, sharing her most recent photos. “Candle Jenner in that Vogue cover shows the same excitement as I do after 60 days of quarantine,” another person added.
But, Candle Jenner is hardly a new nickname. Twitter posts show that people have been referring to the multimillionaire model as “Candle” for at least five years. But, despite the names that Jenner is being called, her minimalist brand of modeling seems to work wonders for her. We’re sure that if she ever decides she’s done with modeling her momager, Kris Jenner, will help dream up another career for her.
