Kendall Jenner Speaks Out About Social Media Anxiety, Says It ‘Boils My Blood’ When People Do This
Kendall Jenner knows all too well just how addictive social media can be. In the latest installment of Vogue’s “Open Minded” series, the supermodel got candid about her relationship with the digital world and how it’s affected her anxiety. She also shared the thing about the internet that grinds her gears, which she and her famous family are no strangers to.
Kendall Jenner says she has an ‘addictive’ relationship with social media
Social media may be a great tool for celebrities to promote themselves and their brands, but for A-listers like Jenner, it’s a dark hole of negativity that can easily affect one’s self-esteem and anxiety.
In a new episode of Vogue’s Open Minded: Unpacking Anxiety series, the supermodel opened up about her relationship with social media.
Though she doesn’t post about her personal life as much as her famous family members and friends, Jenner confessed that she has fallen victim to the digital world, noting that she is a “bit addicted” to it.
“There’s just literally too much. I find that the more I’m looking at the screen, the more detached I feel with my own body or to what’s happening right in front of me,” she said during the episode. “My relationship with social media is a bit addictive right now, which I don’t like and I’m not proud to say that, but I also feel like that’s something that probably most of us can relate to.”
She added, “I don’t like that I feel the need to have social media in the first place. There really is no escaping it.”
Kendall Jenner is affected by the ‘false narratives’ people create based off her social media posts
Jenner, whose Instagram page alone currently boasts 163 million followers, understands how detrimental social media can be to one’s mental health.
Though she doesn’t post everything about her life on social media, Jenner still deals with people making “false narratives” about her online, which doesn’t sit well with her.
“Something that boils my blood, that really frustrates me and I think upsets me the most is when it’s someone claiming a false narrative for me,” she said to Dr. Jorge Partida, the chief of psychology at the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. “The Internet, I guess, bases things off of such small moments with no context. They don’t know the before or the after and they’ll take that and run with it and then completely judge you off of this one little thing.”
The supermodel explained that social media has had a significant impact on her life as it’s caused her to question herself.
“I have moments of feeling like I’m breaking or feeling like I can’t take it anymore because sometimes it does feel like…I can never do anything right.”
She continued, “Because of social media, everything is highlighted, everything is heightened whether good or bad. I feel most of my social media anxiety is actually more the overwhelmingness of it all.”
