Kevin Hart has become one of Hollywood’s top funnymen. He’s known and adored for his kinetic energy and raw confessional style. But when it comes to his newest stand-up special Zero F**** Given, the material didn’t land well with many viewers.

Acknowledging the criticism, the Laugh at My Pain comedian posted an incendiary video online in late November in which he strongly defended the program.

Kevin Hart’s newest stand-up special garnered mixed reviews from critics

Hart’s special released on Netflix on Nov. 17. It was filmed inside of his family home but was staged to look like the inside of a comedy club. “I’m no longer comfortable anywhere else but my house,” Hart explained in the program. “I’m in my f*cking comfort zone. I’m gonna let it fly today. Everything I f*cking feel, I’m gonna say,” he added.

Over the course of a little more than an hour, Hart tackled topics ranging from his coronavirus (COVID-19) diagnosis earlier in 2020 to his experiences as a girl dad. But as The Los Angeles Times notes, he was “more subdued” in his routine than usual, avoiding material that one might expect to hear in a Hart performance.

Upon its release, the special received mixed reviews from viewers. While many people praised Hart and his growth as a comedian, others said on social media that they were unsatisfied.

How Kevin Hart responded to the criticism

Hart went on social media to address the criticism after a reporter apparently asked him to share his thoughts on the reactions to his special.

“I don’t give a f*ck,” he began. “I actually have zero f*cks to give. He said, ‘But Kevin, but wait. People said that they want the old Kevin back.’ I don’t give a f*ck what people said. I have zero f*cks to give. If you want the old Kevin then go look at what the old Kevin did ’cause this Kevin doesn’t give a f*ck. I have zero f*cks to give. I don’t care. I don’t f*ckin’ care.”

“I’m f*cking 41 years old. I don’t have time to give a f*ck,” he added. Hart continued to sound off before ending his rant by plugging the program. “That’s it. I’m done. You get the drift. Go watch the special and hopefully you get to the point one day where you got zero f*cks to give too. On Netflix now.”

Hart also came under fire for his 2010 stand-up special Seriously Funny, which featured homophobic jokes.

After the content resurfaced in 2018, Hart dropped out of a hosting gig at the 2019 Oscars before offering up an apology. “I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past … I am evolving and want to continue to do so. My goal is to bring people together not tear us apart,” he tweeted at the time, per Billboard.
