Why Did Keyshia Cole Leave ‘Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood’ After 1 Season?
Keyshia Cole is responsible for some of the most beloved R&B hits of the 2000s, and has earned her spot as a power player in the music industry. Like many other R&B and hip hop artists, Cole joined the cast of Love & Hip Hop to showcase parts of her life and where she is in her career. But just as quickly as she joined Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood in 2017, she was done with the show just a few months later.
Keyshia Cole is no stranger to reality TV
Love & Hip Hop was far from Cole’s first time at the reality TV rodeo. In 2006, after the artist’s breakout, she launched her own BET reality series, Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is. The show chronicled some of the most personal moments in Cole’s life, and it became one of BET’s most-watched shows in history.
In 2012, she starred in a BET reality show Keyshia & Daniel: Family First, which followed Cole’s marriage to her husband, basketball player Daniel Gibson. They separated soon after that, and she returned to music with her Woman to Woman album. In 2015, she starred in another show of her own, Keyshia Cole: All In.
Keyshia Cole coming to ‘Love & Hip Hop’ was huge
When Cole joined the fourth season of Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood in 2017, she was one of the biggest music stars to be a part of the reality TV franchise. Cardi B had just used the show as a springboard to catapult herself into success, and Cole was ready to bring her career to the platform.
Cole finalized her divorce with Gibson in 2020, but the show highlighted their estranged relationship at the time over the course of the season. The two worked through issues on camera and struggled to come to terms to finalize their divorce. The show also showed her working on her latest album, 11:11 Reset, as she sought to get back into the industry after a few years out of the game.
Cole had the opportunity to interact with other big people in the music industry such as Ray J and Safaree Samuels.
Keyshia Cole left ‘Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood’ after 1 season
In February 2018, TheJasmineBrand exclusively reported that Cole was leaving Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood after just one season. Sources told the site that she joined the show to promote her new album 11:11 Reset and to expand her fan base.
Some Love & Hip Hop stars go on to have their own shoes. Leave It to Stevie follows Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta star Stevie J as he deals with his multiple children and their mothers. K. Michelle: My Life followed the R&B singer after her breakout on Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta. And Joseline Hernandez is still working on her Zeus show Joseline’s Cabaret.
Cole’s brand has only continued to grow since her time on Love & Hip Hop. In 2019, she released a new documentary Keyshia Cole: My New Life and launched her own talk show, One on One with Keyshia Cole.
