Khloé Kardashian Only Agreed to Be on ‘KUWTK’ Because She ‘Couldn’t Imagine’ Giving up 1 of the Family’s Businesses
Keeping Up With the Kardashians is a reality TV mainstay. It’s hard to imagine the series without Khloé Kardashian but that’s what almost happened. She’s been through a lot on the show and says she only agreed to sign on for one reason. Keep reading to learn why the 36-year-old ultimately joined KUWTK.
‘KUWTK’ premieres in 2007
Premiering in October 2007 on the E! network, the world got its first inside look at the lives of the Kardashian-Jenner family. Audiences loved the unfiltered drama involving Kris Jenner and her six kids; Kourtney Kardashian, Kim Kardashian West, Rob Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner, and, of course, Khloé. As KUWTK Season 1 went on, the show picked up momentum and it remains on the air today.
Khloé Kardashian says she signed on for ‘KUWTK’ because of DASH
Before KUWTK made the members of the Kardashian-Jenner family household names, they had other endeavors. Kourtney, Kim, and Khloé founded DASH, a clothing and accessories store, in 2006. They spent time in the early seasons of KUWTK running the business and working at the store.
And according to a 2016 interview Khloé did with Harper’s Bazaar, DASH is the only reason she agreed to be on the reality series. She described herself as doing the show because of family, saying she’d been “pushed into it.”
“Kourtney and I didn’t want to do the show,” she said. “We weren’t anti the show, but we were so obsessed with our clothing store, and I couldn’t imagine having to give that up.”
The one thing that sold her on the idea? The network agreed to let her continue her work at DASH. They’d simply film her at the store as part of the program. So, that’s how Khloé became a cast member on KUWTK.
DASH is a big part of ‘KUWTK’ early on in the series
In the early seasons of KUWTK, DASH is often where cameras filmed Khloé, Kim, and Kourtney. They talked about family drama or a night out while restocking shelves at DASH.
As KUWTK gained popularity with viewers, it spawned spinoff shows. Today, KUWTK has led to at least 11 spinoffs. Over the years, a number of them have focused on Kim, Kourtney, and Khloé opening up new DASH locations across the country.
DASH gets its own ‘KUWTK’ spinoff, ‘Dash Dolls’
After years of being featured on KUWTK and spinoffs, DASH became the center of its own series in 2015. Dash Dolls premiered on E! and followed employees hired by Kim, Kourtney, and Khloé as they experienced drama associated with running the the DASh stores on a day-to-day basis.
Khloé’s best friend, Malika Haqq, and her twin sister, Khadijah Haqq-McCray, starred in the series. There were also occasional appearances by Kourtney, Kim, and Khloé. However, Dash Dolls didn’t prove to be a hit. The series ended after one season and eight episodes.
