Khloé Kardashian Faces Criticism for Latest Instagram Post; Accused of Cultural Appropriation
It’s no secret that Khloé Kardashian likes switching up her hairstyle. The reality star has rocked everything from sleek bob cuts to waist-length extensions.
Though fans often gush over Kardashian’s ever-changing hairdos, some of her looks have landed her in hot water. Recently, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star came under fire for her laid-back vacation hairstyle, which raised accusations of cultural appropriation.
Khloé Kardashian has been accused of blackfishing in the past
Like her sisters, Kardashian has also been accused of appropriating Black culture many times over the years.
In March 2020, the Good American founder faced harsh critiques from social media users after posting a series of photos of herself wearing cornrows with long, pink pastel ends.
While many were quick to hit the comments section and gush over Kardashian’s new look, others were enraged. They didn’t waste time accusing the reality star of “blackfishing” — a term used to describe someone who intentionally portrays themselves as a race other than their own.
Another time Kardashian received heat for trying to “look Black” was in May when she posted snapshots of herself donning a dirty blonde hair color and a notably darker complexion on Instagram.
Some fans couldn’t get over how unrecognizable the mom of one looked in the photos. But many were outraged by her new look and slammed her for fetishizing black skin and culture.

Unfortunately, it seems Kardashian hasn’t learned much from her ongoing issue with cultural appropriation.
On Aug. 25, the reality star came under fire again for appropriating Black culture. The criticism came after she posted photos of herself wearing cornrows while on vacation in Turks and Caicos.
In the snapshots, Kardashian is seen wearing a black, embellished sheer dress with her hair in cornrow braids while riding horseback with her 2-year-old daughter, True Thompson, on the beach.
While many fans and fellow celebrities raved over how good Kardashian looked in the photo, others didn’t appreciate her wearing braids, which have been associated with African culture for thousands of years.
“You’re not BLACK,” one person wrote. Someone else commented, “girl how many times do we have to tell [you] not to do braids.”
“THE BRAIDS- PLS GIRL [YOU’RE] NOT BLACK IT’S NOT MEANT FOR YOUR HAIR,” a user expressed. “Girl you fierce but corn rows are culturally appropriating,” another penned.
But some came to the reality star’s defense. They noted that wearing braids is expected when one is on vacation.
“Every single resort offers braiding for patrons who VISIT the country. Why can’t she wear the braids? Why can’t anyone wear the braids?” one user asked.
Kardashian herself has yet to comment on the matter.
