Khloé Kardashian Reveals She Worked for This Reality Star Before Becoming One Herself
It appears Kim Kardashian West wasn’t the only one in her family who worked for the rich and famous before becoming a well-known figure herself.
Long before her family skyrocketed to fame due to the success of Keeping Up with Kardashians, Khloé Kardashian also held a behind-the-scenes gig working for a notable figure in the entertainment industry, who just so happened to be her childhood best friend.
Khloé Kardashian worked as a personal assistant
Years before she became a household name, Kardashian was just a regular Hollywood kid who worked to make a living for herself.
One job she held before receiving significant media exposure as a star on KUWTK was working as a personal assistant to famous socialite Nicole Richie.
“I was Nicole Richie’s assistant and you were Jonathan Cheban’s assistant and we met five faces ago,” Koko revealed during a recent appearance on the Emergency Contact podcast while recalling how she met co-host Simon Huck.
Kardashian, who appeared on the show alongside BFF Malika Haqq, noted that she didn’t work for Richie for “long” but shared that she helped out the Simple Life star because she was in need of employment.
“I went to school with her,” the Good American founder explained. “She was one of my best friends growing up and we were just really, really close and then when she started doing Simple Life — I think it was after Simple Life — she just needed some help and I just needed a job.”
Kardashian never thought about being a reality star until the idea came along
After moving on from her personal assistant gig, Kardashian and her sisters founded their clothing and accessory chain DASH in 2006, which was her biggest focus at the time.
Seeing as she was busy running their store, the thought of being a reality star never crossed Koko’s mind — that is, until the opportunity presented itself.
“Kourtney [Kardashian] did Filthy Rich: Cattle Drive prior … and Kim [Kardashian] was obsessed with The Real World, but I didn’t think about it, and I think that’s the beauty of it,” Khloé said of KUWTK during the podcast.
Kardashian shared that she and her family didn’t have any expectations for the reality show at first and were surprised when the series turned out to be a huge success.
“We were told we were a show filler and to not get comfortable,” Kardashian recalled. “There wasn’t any pressure because it was like, they don’t think we’re gonna last, so let’s have fun with it.”
Kardashian is devastated the show is now coming to an end
Though Kardashian and her family initially thought the show was going to tank, they were eventually proven wrong after realizing their show had turned into a pop culture phenomenon.
Now — over a decade later — KUWTK is one of the most successful reality shows on network television and has drastically changed the Kardashian-Jenner’s lives for the better.
Unfortunately, though, the family just recently announced that KUWTK will be coming to an end sometime in 2021 after being on-air for nearly 15 years.
While Kardashian says she and her family are heartbroken to be closing this chapter in their lives, they believe that ending the show is the right decision.
“It’s devastating for all of us,” Kardashian told Huck and co-host Melissa Gray Washington. “It’s sad, but we’ve been doing this for 15 years. We get two weeks off a year. It’s exhausting. We’re all in a different place in our lives and some of us need a nap.”
Though she thinks that she and the rest of the Kar-Jenners are in need of a break, Koko admits that the idea of saying goodbye KUWTK still gives her anxiety.
“It’s hard because I’m not good with change, but that doesn’t mean I don’t need a break. I’m also sometimes afraid to take the break,” Kardashian shared. “I know it’s good. It hits me in waves — like today, I’ve been nauseous all day and I know I have anxiety.”
But despite Kardashian being afraid of what’s to come in the future, Haqq believes that her best friend has “true potential” to “tap into some of those unique areas that she’ll flourish in.”
