Jodie Comer and ‘Prima Facie’ in London is more than a security scare
The alarming incident occurred during Comer’s starring run in a solo show called Prima Facie and took place at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London. Lucky for fans who can’t make the show, it won’t be limited to that venue.
On July 21, 2022, it will play in movie theaters worldwide, and the English actor shared her excitement. “I am delighted that our production of Prima Facie will be available to watch in cinemas across the world,” she said per the theater’s Instagram.
She added, “Alongside our ticketing initiatives this is another way that we can make sure that this play is accessible to anyone that would like to see it.”
Comer seems passionate about the production and its message, which focuses on sexual assault. According to reviews on Twitter, the actor gave “phenomenal” performances in the play.
Admirers showed up by the hundreds for the chance to meet Comer outside the Harold Pinter Theater. But one night, one bystander seemed oddly out of place. And his behavior eventually became concerning enough to change the actor’s plans for the evening.
Jodie Comer’s fans alerted security about a concerning individual outside her play
According to a report from The Sun, the crowd on the night in question consisted mostly of women. So, some bystanders took notice of a man in a suit with a bouquet. He reportedly behaved somewhat oddly while fans waited for Comer to emerge for a meet and greet.
“He was scrolling through images of Jodie on his phone. A few of the fans standing near him were worried by his behaviour, so they notified security staff,” a witness recalled.
An announcement came that the talented star would not be meeting with fans. Then, security began to close the shutters over the stage door. Witnesses said the man tried to get under before the shutters closed. When that didn’t work, he seemed to become angry.
Sources told The Sun Comer’s team didn’t feel the individual was a threat after reviewing CCTV footage.
A stalker threatened and harassed Jodie Comer online in 2021
Unfortunately, it wasn’t the Free Guy actor’s first encounter with a potentially dangerous follower. The Sun reported in 2021 that Comer had been receiving online threats and involved authorities when the harassment persisted.
The violent messages supposedly contained talk of murder and were also directed at her family members. They were eventually traced to an individual in France who was then arrested. Sources reported the man was subsequently sent for care in a mental health facility.
The Sun noted, “There is no suggestion [the man from London] is the same man from [the 2021] incident.”
