Kim Kardashian Admits It Is ‘Scary’ to Navigate the Fashion World After Her Divorce From Kanye West
In early 2021, Kim Kardashian West filed for divorce from Kanye West. She has since mostly remained quiet about the divorce. However, Kardashian West recently opened up about the experience, and she shared that it was “scary” for her to navigate the fashion world without her ex-husband.
Kanye West hugely influenced Kim Kardashian West’s style
Although West rose to fame as a rapper, he has been a big name in fashion as well. He founded the brand Yeezy, which sells shoes and other apparel.
When Kardashian West began dating West in 2012, he started having a massive influence on her style. She told him in a 2019 Vogue Arabia cover story, “When I met you, you gave me the biggest closet makeover. I didn’t understand at the time why you wanted to get rid of pretty much everything I owned, but I pretended like I did. You were showing me all of these different designers that I had never heard of before.”
Fans even got a glimpse of this on Keeping Up With the Kardashians when West and his stylist looked through her closet. She explained that West “inspired” her to change up her looks.
Many fans believe West helped Kardashian West get more attention in the fashion industry. In 2013, she attended her first Met Gala. The following year, she landed her first Vogue cover. In 2018, she received awarded the Influencer Award by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).
Kim Kardashian West said it is ‘scary’ to navigate the fashion world after her divorce
In a recent interview with Vogue, Kardashian West explained that West often provided her with insights into upcoming fashion trends. However, without him there, things are feeling a bit “scary.”
“I always think, What will be next?” she said. “Because I always had Kanye, who knew exactly what the next fashion era would be for me. And there’s something scary about being out there on your own, but also something so liberating.”
She continued, “Who knows? I might just be in Skims and be so comfy and casual and wear no makeup, and that might be what I feel like representing to the world. Maybe it’s just not that serious.”
Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West’s divorce has been rocky
For several months after Kardashian West filed for divorce, news outlets reported that the couple was separating cordially. However, in recent months, the tides have turned.
In November and December 2021, West publicly denounced the divorce and claimed that God will reunite his family.
“My kids want they parents to stay together,” he said on the podcast Drink Champs. “I want us to be together. You know, SNL making my wife say ‘I divorced him’ on TV ’cause they just wanted to get that bar off. I ain’t never even seen the papers. We not even divorced … ’cause that ain’t no joke to me.”
In February 2022, he also posted Instagram posts to slam Kardashian West. He shared his displeasure at their oldest daughter, North, having a TikTok account. West also called out Kardashian West for not inviting him to a birthday celebration for 4-year-old Chicago and accused Kardashian West of trying to “kidnap my daughter.”
In response, Kardashian West released a statement explaining her side of the story.
“Kanye’s constant attacks on me in interviews and on social media is actually more hurtful than any TikTok North might create,” she wrote. “As the parent who is the main provider and caregiver for our children, I am doing my best to protect our daughter while also allowing her to express her creativity in the medium that she wishes with adult supervision — because it brings her so much happiness.”
Kardashian West added, “Divorce is difficult enough on our children and Kanye’s obsession with trying to control and manipulate our situation so negatively and publicly is only causing further pain for all.”
