The Kardashian family has been famous for more than 10 years now, so they have no doubt heard a fair share of weird rumors about themselves. However, Kim Kardashian and her oldest child, North, recently found themselves as the target of a disturbing piece of gossip after Christmas. Kardashian has been known to let a number of rumors fade out on their own, but it seems that this time, a line has been crossed for her, which is why she decided to set the record straight.
Kim Kardashian gifted North West items that Michael Jackson wore
North is not any ordinary child who gets toys for Christmas. Kardashian shared that her daughter is a huge Michael Jackson fan, so she and her husband decided to get the 6-year-old a jacket that Jackson himself wore when he met Elizabeth Taylor.
“We knew she would love this, so we won this on an auction for Northie for Christmas and we had it like tacked up so she can wear it,” Kardashian told followers on her Instagram account. “The sleeves are half tacked up so when she gets older, we can like untack this sleeve, and it can like grow with her and she can have this for her whole life.”
Kardashian also added that North is “so grateful and so excited.”
In addition to the jacket, North received Jackson’s hat that he wore in his “Smooth Criminal” music video as well. Kardashian noted that “it still has his make up on it.”
While some people criticized the items as not being age-appropriate for a young kid to get as gifts, others thought they were heartwarming presents considering how close the Kardashian family was to Jackson.
Someone made a joke about Kim Kardashian giving North a bloody shirt
As with pretty much everything the Kardashian family does, someone on the internet decided to make a joke out of Kardashian’s present.
After Kardashian revealed the jacket that she got North, a netizen Photoshopped Kardashian’s Instagram story handle onto a picture of John F. Kennedy’s bloody shirt. There was even a fake caption said that said: “Along with Michael Jackson’s jacket and hat, North also got the shirt John F. Kennedy wore when he was assassinated.”
Refinery29, then, reported the joke as a part of their story as if it was really from Kardashian’s Instagram, writing: “What is North West going to do with JFK’s bloody shirt? And why isn’t it in a museum?”
“The visual of the shirt is jarring – and raises questions about why anyone would give a child something so violent,” the news outlet added.
Kim Kardashian called the joke ‘sick’
After a BuzzFeed writer called out Refinery29 for reporting on the false story, Kardashian chimed in and also debunked the report that she gave her daughter such a disturbing shirt.
“WOW this is obviously fake!” Kardashian wrote on Twitter. “@Refinery29 I did not get JFK’s shirt. That is a sick joke that someone tweeted as a fake ig story that I never posted.”
Since being called out, Refinery 29 has edited the article to exclude the false information. Fans of Kardashian have called out the publication for its irresponsible reporting.
Kim Kardashian got her brother Rob Kardashian memorable presents
North West was not the only person who got very extravagant gifts during the holiday season. In fact, Kardashian gave her brother, Rob Kardashian, some items from his idol as well.
Kim Kardashian shared that Rob is “the biggest Elvis Presley fan,” so she got him two of Elvis’ rings for Christmas. The Blast reported that she got these gifts from Julien’s Auctions, which regularly hosts auctions to sell items that once belonged to Hollywood stars.
It has been said that Kardashian also got Jackson’s memorabilia for North at one of these events hosted by Julien’s Auctions.
