Kim Kardashian’s Latest Kanye West Shoutout Shows She Knows How to Give Credit Where It’s Due
The marital union of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West (sorry, Ye) was the celebrity marriage equivalent of the Avengers finally teaming up on the big screen for the first time back in 2012. Their relationship appeared to be perfect for modern fame, bringing tabloid culture and the mainstream hip-hop industry even closer together. But the increasing divide between their personalities eventually led to a divorce. While there is still reportedly some tension between the two of them, Kardashian did offer an olive branch to her husband by thanking him for his role in shaping her as a fashion icon at a recent awards ceremony.
Kim and Kanye’s love story was a public whirlwind
It was a match made in 21st-century pop culture heaven. Before they got together, Kardashian and West were huge stars in their own fields, but their relationship brought each of them to a wider audience. West was and remains an iconic rapper. Kardashian was a reality tv star with a budding entrepreneurial career.
Their romance started so brightly. They (in)famously starred in the video for Yeezus highlight “Bound 2” together before becoming parents to three children. They went to the Met Gala together. They went on to get married and welcome four children together.
Kardashian filed for divorce in September. West still seems to be reeling from the news. Meanwhile, Kardashian seems to be enjoying herself with Hollywood’s favorite rebound boyfriend, Pete Davidson.
Kim Kardashian gave her ex a shutout at the People’s Choice Awards

After first thanking major industry players like Zac Posen, Riccardo Tisci, and Olivier Rousteing, she then noted the influence of West on her work with such designers by joking that they “probably were talked into it by getting a call from Kanye.”
Kardashian continued to talk about Ye with more sincerity, giving him some credit for her break into the loftier sides of the industry.
“Thank you to Kanye even, for really introducing me to the fashion world,” she said as the crowd cheered in the background.
Kanye did a lot to shape Kim’s modern image, for better and worse
It’s fitting that Kardashian gave West thanks for shaping her recent style, given that he took ownership over everything she wore early in their relationship as a couple.
An episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians showcased West and his stylist going through Kardashian’s wardrobe and replacing what they didn’t like (which was almost everything) with their own chosen pieces. W Magazine highlighted West’s decree that his partner couldn’t wear “big glasses” anymore and the time when he swapped out 250 pairs of shoes while the couple were at a Lakers game, and during another episode of KUWTK, Kardashian revealed that Ye flew her out to Paris for one day because he didn’t like an outfit she’d chosen for herself.
This level of control would bother plenty of other women, but Kardashian seemed to be fine with it given the results. She did just get an award for how she dresses and Kardashian continues to wear similarly tight and monochromatic pieces to events like The Met Gala. It speaks well of her that she can still give him credit for what he did for her even though her feelings about him must be complicated.
