Kim Kardashian West Once ‘Got In Trouble’ With TSA for a Tweet She Made on a Plane
Kim Kardashian West is one of the most famous and influential people in the world. She is a businesswoman, reality TV star, and social media influencer. However, even with her global appeal, Kardashian West has had her run-ins with authorities as well. One time, she “got in trouble” with the Transportation Security Administration after posting a tweet on a plane.
Kim Kardashian West once told the story of how she ‘got in trouble’ with TSA
In 2010, Kardashian West visited The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where she shared that something she recently tweeted at the time went on TSA’s radar.
“I tweeted on the plane while the air marshal was sitting next to me,” Kardashian West said. “He told me [he was an air marshal] and I tweeted it.” She clarified that she did ask the air marshal for permission to tweet about him.
She continued, “I think I got in big trouble. TSA put out some statement.”
What actually happened between Kim Kardashian West and TSA?
According to CNN, Kardashian West tweeted, “I’m on the airplane…love wifi! I am sitting next to an Air Marshall [sic]! Jim the air marshall [sic] makes me feel safe!”
She also said in another post, after being asked more questions by fans, “Air Marshall’s [sic] are supposed to keep their identity concealed. He did! I am just a private eye & assumed, so I asked him & he was honest!”
This incident brought up questions about whether air marshals should reveal their identity when asked by a passenger. After all, air marshals are supposed to blend in with fellow passengers and not draw attention to themselves.
However, a spokesperson for TSA simply commented that Kardashian West’s situation was “pretty interesting.”
“There are thousands of flights every day and thousands of air marshals covering those flights every day, and each situation is unique,” spokesperson Nelson Minerly said. CNN also noted that, according to Minerly, “TSA does not discuss how federal air marshals operate on an aircraft.”
Kim Kardashian West had another problem with TSA later on
Kardashian West and her family are jet-setters, going from one location to another on a frequent basis. She and her husband, Kanye West, actually had another incident with TSA. However, this time, it was not exactly her fault.
In 2013, Kardashian West and West were at JFK International Airport in New York City to catch a connecting flight back to Los Angeles. As reported by TMZ, an airline employee allowed the couple to skip a security checkpoint and get to their plane quickly. After they boarded the plane, a TSA agent came and took them off, making them go through the security process as it was mandated. Kardashian West and West went back to the plane afterwards, and it took off after a long delay.
A spokesperson for TSA explained, “The airline employee violated security protocols by permitting the travelers to by-pass the TSA security checkpoint. TSA officials learned of the violation and conducted a private screening of the two passengers in the area of the jetway.”
