Kim Kardashian West realized the power of her words when she shared what she would do as the victim of a robbery.
Kardashian West opened up about the 2016 robbery that changed her life when she appeared on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman in October 2020.
While she sat on stage wearing a yellow, body-hugging dress and heels, she explained that the event was something she thought about often. As someone who has been in stardom since the early 2000s, Kardashian West revealed that the robbery was something she always saw as a possibility.
Kim Kardashian West played out a burglary scenario with her friends before the 2016 robbery
In 2016, Kardashian West was in Paris with her sister, Kourtney, and her entourage for Paris Fashion Week. She stayed at the No Address Hotel when she said two men held her at gunpoint and proceeded to steal millions of dollars worth of jewelry, including her $4 million engagement ring from Kanye West. Before the robbery, Kardashian West told Letterman that she and her friends had discussed what they would do if held captive.
“Me and my girlfriends, we had lunch that day and said, ‘If you guys were robbed, what would you do? Would you just give them the stuff?’ Why we had this conversation, it was so wild,” Kardashian West recalled. “And I said I would say, take everything, just take everything. Nothing is important. And then that night [I was robbed].”
Kim Kardashian West said she ‘mentally prepped’ for her burglars to rape her
The aftermath of Kardashian West’s robbery played out on multiple episodes of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. She told her sisters Khloé and Kourtney that she thought the robbers knew Kardashian West was alone at the event. Her former bodyguard, Pascal Duvier, was out with Kourtney and Kendall Jenner when the robbers came into Kardashian West’s hotel. Additionally, the robbers also held the hotel concierge hostage to translate to Kardashian West for them. Kardashian West said that not only did she fear she would never see her husband and children again, she also thought the robbers planned to rape her that night.
“Then [one of the robbers] duct tapes my face, my mouth, to get me to not yell or anything and then he grabs my legs, and I wasn’t, I had no clothes on under [my robe], and he pulled me toward him at the front of the bed and I thought, ‘OK, this is the moment. They are going to rape me.'” Kardashian West said. “And I fully mentally prepped myself, and then he didn’t, and he duct taped my legs together.”
Kim Kardashian West settled a lawsuit with Pascal Duvier for $6.1 million
According to The Sun, Kardashian West took action against her former security guard, Duvier, and his companies- Protect Security and Balali Investments Inc.
After two years of going back and forth, Kardashian West’s and Duvier’s legal team quietly reached a settlement agreement in October 2020. While her lawyer, Jay Harder, didn’t confirm the amount, court documents revealed that a settlement was made and is reportedly worth $6.1 million.
“Plaintiff’s Counsel informs the court that the parties have come to a settlement agreement and are waiting on the defendant’s signature to proceed further,” the document read.
