Kim Kardashian West on Her ‘Iconic’ Tour of Vatican City: ‘Don’t Worry, I Adhered to the Dress Code and Fully Covered Up’
Kim Kardashian West is setting the record straight about the revealing dress she wore during her tour of Vatican City during her Roman holiday. Of course, in true Kardashian West style, she pushed all the boundaries and many fans weren’t happy.

The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star stunned the world when she wore a sexy off-the-shoulder lace gown with cutouts at the hips and lower back during her tour of St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. The star posted a series of photos of her and Kate Moss inside of Vatican City. The two fashion icons looked stunning with Moss wearing a black ensemble and Kardashian West wearing the now-iconic lace gown.
Many people were shocked just how the fashion mogul could get away with wearing such a revealing gown at such a holy site that is known for a strict dress code. According to the website for the Sistine Chapel, “appropriate clothing is required to respect the sacredness of the place.” The official website also states that “entry to the Sistine Chapel is permitted only to appropriately dressed visitors.” In fact, they suggest that visitors wear “long pants and long-sleeved shirts.” It also states that “plastic cloaks” are available for purchase for the purpose of covering up “your knees and shoulders.”
Kim Kardashian West ‘adhered’ to the Vatican dress code
Kardashian West posted more photos of the Roman trip on social media, where she also opened up about how special the experience was for her and reassured fans that she adhered to the dress code. Kardashian West wrote as a caption, “We had the most incredible experience touring Vatican City.” The reality star went on to reveal that she had the opportunity to view the “private archive of robes worn by every pope in history, dating back to the 1500’s.”
After expressing how she was grateful to witness firsthand the priceless artwork, architecture, and sculptures, the fashion icon then reassured fans. She wrote, “Don’t worry, I adhered to the dress code and fully covered up while inside St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel’s.” Kardashian West posted a photo of her in front of the murals alongside a group of friends, including Moss and the model’s daughter, Lila Grace Moss-Hack.
Fans react to Kim Kardashian West’s Gown
Most of Kardashian West’s fans were supportive of the risque look, but some followers had their opinions about what she decided to wear to the Vatican. Most of the fans were either shocked by the revealing gown or by the fact that Kardashian West was allowed to take photos inside of the sacred place.
One Instagram user commented: “The most inappropriate dress worn to go to church let alone to visit the Vatican.” Another user wrote, “I love you Kim but this is so inappropriate. I know your brand is wearing the least amount of fabric but for us catholics this is a sacred place. The fact that you could care less is beyond me.” A commenter called out Kardashian West on her insensitivity, writing, “‘Adhered to the dress code’ -wears a see through dress“
Despite the mass criticism Kardashian West received for wearing such a gown in a sacred Catholic space, the fashion mogul seems unbothered. One thing is for sure if anyone can push the limits of fashion and get away with it — it’s Kim Kardashian West.
